Hurricane is situated between the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area and Zion National Park, off of I-15. This Washington County city’s history began in 1860 when highly-recognized church leader Erastus Snow’s buggy’s roof blew off from the wind. He reportedly stated, “Well that was a hurricane. We’ll name this land Hurricane Hill.” In 1893 during talks of building an irrigation system, the Hurricane Canal Company was born. The 7.5-mile canal took more than a decade, but paved the way for the town’s establishment.
There are many attractions in and around Hurricane. Sand Hollow State Park allows residents to boat on crystal-blue water, hike along the red sandstone terrain, ride all-terrain vehicles through the trails, and camp under a blanket of stars. Green River State Park Golf Course and Wasatch Mountain Golf Course are located within the park.
The festival “Peach Days” is celebrated every Labor Day Weekend in the town square.
