Andrew Jackson Condominium

214 Units 7 Stories Built in 1964 251,076 Sq Ft

Several details distinguish The Andrew Jackson from other developments in vibrant Jackson Heights, a neighborhood known for garden-style apartments and a large, diverse immigrant community. “The main factor that makes it different is that it’s a condo and not a co-op, which is super rare in Jackson Heights and Queens overall,” says Alexandra Gupta, a broker with Corcoran who recently sold a one-bedroom in the building. Constructed in 1964, the 214-unit property also comes with a private outdoor pool, a rare and coveted summer amenity. Divided into three wings, the E-shaped structure sports a simple, red-brick exterior that reflects the streamlined architectural style of the mid-20th century. “It’s a nice, well-maintained and clean building — and it’s also an investment opportunity because you can rent out your unit,” adds Gupta. The location is also a significant draw, steps from the M and R trains and a few blocks from a more prominent transit hub.

Residences at The Andrew Jackson range from studios to three-bedroom layouts with little commonality regarding finishes. Some units have been renovated with sleek appliances and hardwood floors, while others sport vinyl planks, carpeting and basic fixtures. A few apartments come with private balconies, and those on the top floors often boast stellar views of the Manhattan skyline. The property’s original brochure from the 1960s touts living rooms up to 25 feet long and an abundance of large closets, some so big they’re dubbed “walk-around-ins.” Those floorplans are largely intact today, and the most miniature layouts sell for roughly $320,000. One-bedrooms range from $425,000 to $450,000, while two-bedrooms fetch around $600,000. A three-bedroom home hit the market in May 2024 for $829,000 before being reduced to $799,000 five months later. All the three-bedrooms in the building are equipped with two bathrooms, which is not always the case with local construction. "The monthly fees are on the lower side," adds Gupta, who recently sold a one-bedroom that carried a charge of $628 per month. "And because it's a condo, you don’t necessarily have to sell your unit if you want to move because you can rent it out.”

A standout feature at The Andrew Jackson is its outdoor swimming pool, a coveted amenity rarely found in New York City developments. Open seasonally, the kidney-shaped pool was recently renovated and occupies a walled courtyard furnished with outdoor tables, chairs and chaise longues. The elevator building also features a full-time door attendant and security cameras, which provide residents with a sense of safety. Another bonus is that laundry rooms are on every floor of the building. There's also a community meeting room, storage lockers, a bike room and a parking garage. “There is a significant wait list for the garage, but there is also parking nearby in a neighboring building,” notes Gupta.

Situated in the heart of Queens, Jackson Heights is known as one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the whole city, with The New York Times branding it as a “global town square” in 2020. The vibrant enclave attracts immigrants from Latin America and Asia, especially Nepal, Tibet, India and Colombia. Restaurants and bakeries in the neighborhood reflect this populace and include well-reviewed destinations like Birria-Landia, Himalayan Yak, Dosa Delight, Arepa Lady, Raja Sweets and Chef’s Mahal. Grocery shopping can be done at Foodtown, Premium Supermarket and Food Dynasty, which is about a quarter mile away. Also nearby is Lemon Farm, a smaller outlet brimming with imported specialty items and organic goods, as well as numerous Halal and international food stores. In addition, a year-round farmer’s market occurs on 34th Avenue every Sunday.

In terms of recreational spaces, a few blocks away is General Hart Playground, which underwent a $3.5 million renovation in 2021 and now features new play equipment, revamped basketball courts, refreshed landscaping and an ADA-accessible entrance. A little over half a mile away, Travers Park underwent its own makeover in recent years to improve its sporting facilities and layout. The two-acre park hosts several events throughout the year, including a live music series called Summer Sundays in the Park, which takes place in the central plaza and tennis courts. Across the street from the building is the Regal Heights Rehab and Nursing Center.

The Andrew Jackson’s setting on Leverich Street offers residents quick access to public transportation. The closest subway station is a block away at 65th Street, serviced by the M and R trains. Additional lines can be found at the neighborhood's central transit hub, Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue, where the 7, E, F, M and R trains converge, about a third of a mile from the building. For bus options, the Q70 stops near the property and provides free nonstop service to LaGuardia Airport, roughly 10 minutes away. Other routes that are close by include the Q32, Q33, Q49 and Q47. Residents who use Citi Bikes will find a dock just one block down the street.

City - Jackson Heights

Jackson Heights sits in the northwestern corner of Queens, occupying a stretch of the borough where dozens of languages can be heard on a single city block. What began as a marshy colonial-era lowland called Trains Meadow has grown into one of the most culturally layered neighborhoods in New York City, a designation the New York Times has echoed more than once. The neighborhood draws energy from its main commercial corridors along Roosevelt Avenue and 74th Street, where South Asian grocery stores, Latin American bakeries, and Himalayan eateries share the streetscape with longtime community institutions.

The housing stock here leans heavily toward pre-war co-ops and mid-rise brick apartment communities, many of which feature interior courtyards that give the neighborhood a surprisingly green, almost European quality. Garden apartments and attached row homes also appear throughout the residential blocks, offering renters a range of footprints and price points within a walkable setting.
