About 3200 Pioneer Ave SE Cedar Rapids, IA 52403
Monroe Place-placed on the National Register of Historic Place in 2015. Monroe Elementary was built in 1961 using mid-century linear design. The school is awash in color with an original mural and ceramic tile lining the building's corridors. Original wood doors and unique wood cubbies line the corridors. The use of glazing, deep overhangs and exposed beams and trusses are visibly appealing. The windows with their alternating light configurations remain intact throughout the building. Rehabilitation and preservation was lead by a talented team. ASK Studio, a leader in Iowa historic preservation projects, converted the classroom space into 19 apartments units without subdivision of the historic space. The general contractor, Woodruff Construction, a partner in the project, built 13 two bedrooms, 3 three bedroom and 3 four bedroom units. Unique loft units were built in the two story gymnasium, boiler room and cafeteria areas. Pets Welcome - Large fenced in area so your dog can be off leash. Limit 2 pets per unit, but no size or weight restrictions!
