It is also home to Lower Girard Lake and Upper Girard Lake. In 1931, two lakes were formed when Squaw Creek was dammed, covering land once used for mining and farming. Upper Girard Lake is wrapped by Price Field, a large park ideal for wildlife viewing.
Girard is home to a downtown shopping district, and it is about four miles from the Eastwood Mall Complex. Other nearby destinations include Wagon Trails Animal Park, Old Avalon Golf Course, and Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. Girard is perfectly located for enjoying the theaters, culture, museums, and sites of Cleveland, about an hour northwest of Girard, and Pittsburgh, an hour southeast. Lake Erie is 50 miles north, ideal for spending summer days at the beach.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
