Hanscom Park is a neighborhood of firsts -- it contains Omaha's first city park (also Hanscom Park), it is considered Omaha's first suburb, and it features some of the city's major landmarks -- including the birthplace of President Gerald Ford. Hanscom Park dates back to 1854, when Colonel Sam Bayliss moved to the area. In 1872, Andrew J. Hanscom -- who had purchased land from Bayliss -- donated the land for the park. The area quickly became a suburb when an electric trolley connected the area with Downtown Omaha.
Located just two miles from downtown, Hanscom Park is a popular neighborhood, featuring many historic mansions converted into apartment buildings. With I-80 and I-480 nearby, travel to Omaha's major landmarks and businesses is easy. Hanscom Park is bordered by the Omaha VA Medical Center to the north and Metropolitan Community College-South Omaha to the south. Nearby attractions include the Old Market (to the northeast) and the Henry Doorly Zoo (to the southeast).

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
