About This Property
Live in Downtown Walnut Creek! Available April 16 for 3 month or longer lease. This fully furnished 2-bedroom, 1.5 bath home is in the popular Almond-Shuey residential neighborhood of Downtown Walnut Creek. Walk to BART. Walk everywhere. Excellent credit required. Designed by famous mid-century modern architect William Wurster, this single family home is in the forefront of the mid-century modern life style -- California indoor-outdoor living at its best. Walk through the tall redwood front door into a beautiful interior garden courtyard, then into the house. The house, fully paneled in mahogany, has a granite kitchen, marble baths. The great room has 10 ft high ceilings and a massive living room chandelier. The open floor plan offers great views into your perfectly private courtyard, complete with its own chandelier for romantic evenings outside. The house is vintage, beautifully maintained and furnished. Real wood fireplace. Comfortable furnishings include a piano, a 50" Samsung UHD LED Smart TV and a drinks cabinet for entertaining. Queen bed in one bedroom, twin beds in the other, sleeps four easily. Wurster called his early homes (this one from 1940) "Big Small Houses" because they incorporate outdoor spaces in everyday living areas, with the courtyard and its covered outdoor living room with high roof. A full bath plus a powder room. Sheets, towels, linens included. Gas range, dishwasher, new refrigerator. Dishes, pots and pans, small appliances, everything you need in the kitchen. There is a full size washer and dryer (free, not coin-operated) in a laundry room outside at the end of the driveway. The outdoor living room includes a sofa and chairs as well as patio furniture in the garden courtyard, a perfect place for morning coffee, relaxing or entertaining. Two camellia trees, a Queen Elizabeth rose, and flowers, with shade sails across the open courtyard. (Nearly zero mosquitoes here, unlike other parts of the country, so wonderful to sit out in the evening.) The Almond-Shuey neighborhood is an historic, vibrant neighborhood, filled with young people, millennials, seniors, babies and dogs and retirees. Located in one of California's top school districts, and you can walk from your front door to the city's numerous restaurants. Shop at Macy's, Nordstrom's. Even Tiffany's, Target, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are just blocks away. The Lesher Center for the Arts is down the street, and a block further is City Hall and Civic Park with its library and playground, and an entrance to the Iron Horse Trail for walking, running or cycling. To get to San Francisco or either SFO or OAK Airports, take BART, a 12-15 minute walk. There is a Sunday downtown Farmer's market. The location is everything! And if you are driving there is free driveway parking, so two cars can park here with no hassles or fees. Freeway entrances to 680 and 24 are only a few blocks away. The house is energy efficient: Wurster was known for siting and the house is positioned and designed to have breezes from San Francisco blow through the house via transom windows in the kitchen, the center of the house. It has a new energy efficient furnace, a tankless water heater, only LED or low energy lighting, tinted windows, and a new roof with heavy insulation. Very green! This is a great house to live in. We love this house and believe you will, too. Note: Owners live across the street. There is a separate cottage behind the house that is rented separately and has a separate entrance. Tenant shares only the laundry. Lease terms: Excellent credit required. Rent includes $100 a month of the gas and electric bill, balance is paid by Tenant. A small dog can be allowed on request and Owner's approval. No smoking. Security deposit is $3900; there is a fee of $25 to check credit. For leases under 6 months there will be a $300 service fee.
