A half-wall and sliding panels divide the living room and bedroom to open up or close the view and airflow between the two rooms. The apartment is located on the 2nd floor near the southwest corner of the building, and is accessible through the 3 staircases for the building. There is no elevator on the premises. The building is a concrete, three-story walk-up, constructed in 1971, and provides 3 gated entrances on the south, west and north sides of the building. On typical weather days, the trade-winds provide a steady airflow through the apartments, and the concrete walls keep the interior cool. The apartment windows are made of wooden jalousies that allow the breeze to consistently flow through the apartment when opened, and can block out light during the evening or day. The neighborhood is relatively quiet, with noisier times being at the start and end of the school day, or during high traffic times of day. A gated, outdoor parking lot is adjacent to the building and the apartment comes with one assigned stall. Parking for visitors is available on the street and at the community park. A shared laundry room is located on the 1st floor across from the mailboxes. The building manager lives on site and oversees the property's cleanliness and landscape maintenance. The residents of the building are a mix of elders, families, and working adults. Over half of the units are owner-occupied. The neighborhood has many families due to its location to schools. Most of the residences in this area are 3-story apartment buildings and townhomes. The apartment building is a 5-6 minute walk to local retailers, including Foodland, Savers, and 12+ eateries. The building is across the street from Kalihi Kai Elementary School and Kalakaua Middle School, and is within 1-2 miles of Kamehameha School, Honolulu Community College, Hawaii Pacific University, Honolulu Harbor, and the downtown core. The neighborhood is 3.5 miles from Ala Moana Beach Park. On the west side of the building is Kalakaua District Park. It features beautiful monkeypod trees, a spacious field for walking or running, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and an indoor gymnasium. The open market is located at the park on Saturday mornings, and offers some of the most cost-effective prices for fresh local vegetables, fruits, and baked goods. Water and sewer fees are included in the rental rate. Appliances include community laundry; range/oven; and refrigerator. No Smoking or Pets.
