Have you ever hiked up a sand dune? One so high up that when you got to the top, you were able to take in a gorgeous pink-and-gold sunset overlooking expansive waters of Lake Michigan?
Norton is a lakefront city on the shores of Lake Michigan, and the home of Hoffmaster State Park. Here, that view is possible because of the Dune Climb Stairway. Atop the dunes is an observation deck, which looks out onto the dunes and waters of Lake Michigan. This park is a popular spot for hiking, as well as birdwatching, swimming, and cross-country skiing. Other surrounding lakes include Mona Lake and Black Lake.
This suburban city is close to Grand Rapids by way of I-96. Colleges in the area include Muskegon Community College, Baker College, and Grand Valley State. Grade school students are served by the Mona Shores Public Schools system. For travel, the proximity to Muskegon County Airport is a relief for residents.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
