Wickenburg sits on the far northern edge of the Sonoran Desert at the foothills of the Bradshaw Mountains, about 60 miles northwest of Phoenix, where the Hassayampa River creates a rare desert oasis. Located primarily in Maricopa County with a portion reaching into Yavapai County, this high-desert town of roughly 7,500 residents is known as the "Dude Ranch Capital of the World" and keeps an authentic Western, frontier pace well removed from the Phoenix metro. Its historic downtown around Frontier Street is lined with locally owned shops, galleries, and restaurants, and cactus-studded ranchland stretches out in every direction. The rental market is modest and leans toward single-family homes and smaller apartment or ranch-style properties. Wickenburg traces its roots to 1863, when prospector Henry Wickenburg discovered the Vulture Mine, one of Arizona's richest gold strikes, and guest ranches later made the town a tourist draw along U.S. Route 60.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
