Tucked into the hills of south Asheville with spectacular mountain views, Shiloh developed during the 1870s. Today, this historic community is one of the area's most diverse -- and is in a completely different location. Shiloh began where the Biltmore Estate is today -- George Vanderbilt purchased the land in the late 1880s and moved the entire community, including the church and the cemetery, to its current location. The neighborhood is often referred to as "New Shiloh," with its former, original location called "Old Shiloh."
Shiloh, once an independent village, was annexed by Asheville in 1954 -- completely by accident. The village became a part of Asheville due to a clerical error in the state attorney's office. Shiloh still has that independent feel, located about three miles south of Downtown Asheville and east of the Biltmore Estate. Shiloh is located between Hendersonville Road and I-40 and is mostly residential.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
