  • Finding Apartments for Rent in Dover, DE

Dover, DE experienced its most impressive rate of expansion after both World Wars I and II. Completed construction of the Dupont Highway in 1924 led to further growth of the city. From 1925 to 1936, Dover's city limits were broadened dramatically as its design and operations were strengthened and enhanced. When the International Latex Corporation arrived in 1937, this industrial resource brought stability to Dover and its residents. The Dover Air Force Base of World War II days has now become one of the major worldwide military freight terminals. Dover is currently home to four school districts and to five colleges. Dover remains a thriving community, just as it was during its beginning stages of development.

You will be pleased to discover the diverse choices of apartment styles, sizes and rental rates in and around Dover, Delaware. Although rents are generally reasonable in Dover's central metro district, rents for apartments on the quieter outskirts of the city are often comparable to rental rates in the suburbs.

    Popular Neighborhoods in Dover, DE

Although apartments located in Dover's metro area often have reasonable rental rates, many couples, families and singles choose to live in residential and rural areas adjoining the city's central district. Charming apartments can be found in these residential regions where dwellers have ethnic diversity, and different types of shops and styles of cuisine are plentiful.

One of the most desirable neighborhoods for a peaceful, relaxing lifestyle in the suburbs of Dover is Camden, Delaware, just four miles southwest of Dover. Camden was given its name in the 1790s, having formerly been known as Mifflin's Crossroads and later, as Piccadilly. As an early center of commerce, the community first transported its goods to markets via the Port of Lebanon. With the construction of the railroads in the 1850s, Camden acquired an easier method of sending products to marketplaces. Today, many residents commute daily to jobs and professions located within Dover's central metro area via Delaware Route 10 and U.S. Route 13.

Another favored suburban location for many Delaware residents who work in Dover is Wyoming, also just four miles southwest of Dover. This community was first called West Camden and gained steady growth due to the expansion of the Delaware Railroad in 1856. An early land developer in this locale was Rev. John J. Pearce, who moved to West Camden from the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania. More residents of the Wyoming Valley soon relocated to West Camden. At this time, West Camden residents decided to change the town's name to Wyoming both to honor the newly arrived residents and to break their own bond with Camden. Wyoming became known for the fine quality produce and other agricultural products grown in the area's fertile farm land. Currently, many Wyoming residents enjoy the healthy, rural lifestyle while working in nearby Dover. Wyoming is an easy commute to Dover by Moose Lodge Road and U.S. Route 13.
