I was stunned by the tranquil feel of the property the moment I crossed the wood walk bridge onto the property as I approached the lease office. The grounds appeared to be well kept and the creeks and aviary gave me a sense of being in the deep woods.
However, maintenance and cleanliness are lowest of priorities for Far West Management. My apartment was not clean upon move-in. The oven was filthy, the microwave handle is broken, the dishwasher does not work correctly, the GFCI outlet in the kitchen 'pops' off every time I turn on the dining room light, the bath exhaust fan had NEVER been cleaned and couldn't move the stale air out of the bathroom so mold is growing on the ceiling, the shower tile is filthy, there is 'body' hair painted onto the shower walls, the toilet had been used and not flushed, the bath sink does not hold water, the entry door sticks due to being painted while shut, the patio door was caked with filth so badly I could barely open it, and the apartment had only been partially painted although the lease stated it had been 100% painted. The AC did not work and has been serviced twice in the two weeks I have lived here. I called the 24 hour apartment service line and was told that AC related issues can only be reported during business hours, 10a-6p. The return air grill has been painted so many times that air can barely flow through it, there are so many air leaks that the second floor is constantly hot, the system is so dirty that I have to dust my entire home every day. I have reported the condition of my apartment to Far West Management and their only offer was to break my lease and refund my deposit and first month rent. I explained I have no desire to move since the property is what I have been looking for, the location is walking distance to my new office, my loft overlooks the Santiago Nature Preserve and bike trail. JUST FIX THE PROBLEMS! I have had to clean the apartment myself. I paid $500 to hire a qualified AC repairman to dismantle and clean the AC system that had been neglected for decades. I have hired an attorney to protect my rights under CA Civil Code 1941.1-5 that allows me to make repairs and deduct the fee from my rent. Far West Management has stated they will NOT reimburse my expenses although the law is on my side.
Maintenance and cleanliness are the lowest of priorities here. BEWARE!! Look beyond the lush landscape and affordable rates.
