Jacksonville’s close proximity to Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River makes it a popular area for military personnel and civilian D.O.D. employees to find off-base housing; as a result, the local culture is heavily focused on the military.
The city’s nightlife scene and shopping centers like the Jacksonville Mall are popular hangouts. The area surrounding Riverwalk Park is full of historic brick buildings and quaint storefronts, giving the area a sense of rustic charm – it’s the perfect place to find your new favorite coffee shop.
For weekend trips, folks in Jacksonville enjoy easy access to large nature preserves like Hofmann Forest and the beaches of Emerald Isle. With an exceptionally low cost of living, apartments and rental houses are available to fit any budget.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Williamsburg Place
I am one to never leave reviews anywhere but I think it’s important before anyone wastes their money renting here. First, the model apartment they show is nothing like the apartments they give you. Nothing is up to date and it was not properly cleaned when we moved in. The floors are not real flooring it’s more like vinyl that peels and is horrible to clean. The fridge space is very small (not big enough for a family of 4). The volleyball court that looks pretty in pictures hasn’t been up to date since we moved in almost a year ago. The trash is always overflowing but they blame it on the renters when it’s a management issue. We started noticing bugs in our apartment and they came to spray but we had to take care of it ourselves because it didn’t work. The security gates are open almost all of the time so I’m not quite sure why we still have them and why they promote that it’s a gated community. The only nice thing about the apartment is the pool and the gym (when the pool is cleaned properly). The pool restrooms are never cleaned but they don’t want you to use the clubhouse restrooms when you’re at the pool, only the gross ones outside. The people that work in the front office are not professional and not friendly (except Lee).
We recently sold our home & were planning on staying at Williamsburg Place for the next 6 months while searching for our next home once we knew where my husband would be relocated for work. When I toured this complex I was shown a model that along with the amenities impressed me, we put in an application for a three bedroom apartment & were approved. I asked if it would be possible to view the apt. prior to move in as we were downsizing. I was told it could not be made available to view until move in as they were completing turnover. Two days prior to our move in date we hadn't received our portal invite to pay deposits, my husband called the office & was told that there was a delay with the carpet vendor & they were waiting until the last minute to be sure prior to informing us that the apt. wouldn't be ready on time. I asked them to speak with the vendor to ensure we were move in ready on time as our movers were ready for that date and the charge to change our date with them would be thousands. We were led to believe that it was the carpet vendor who was holding things up on their end but they were able to push the vendor & get everything ready on time. When my husband arrived on move in day both he and the movers were horrified to face a major roach infestation throughout the entire unit. At this point my husband asked to movers to please stop opening boxes and to leave them wrapped as is since they could not put them back on the truck and he went to the office to speak with staff at which point he was told that they "were aware there were a few roaches in the unit" but had heavily it treated already. When my husband brought them over to the apt. the staff said "oh wow this is bad" " it didn't look like this a few days ago" I firmly believe that they were aware of the extent and scope of this infestation & used the vendor as an excuse to try and buy more time to treat for the roaches so that we wouldn't know about the problem for awhile. We were offered an apartment change 3 days later when I arrived in town and saw the size of the problem we declined as we felt that since our belongings had been in the unit for a few days we would potentially be bringing the issue with us to a new location. We have incurred well over $10,000 in expenses just to stay out of this unit as roaches carry and transmit disease and exacerbate asthma symptoms and we have toddlers and asthmatic children. What our family experienced was a horror story please stay away.
I was trying not write a review, since the leasing office accommodated my request to shorten my lease. But after being woken up by a roach (I have requested extermination twice) crawling on me this morning, I feel compelled to warn others to prevent the stress and sleepless nights I’m experiencing. It is challenging to move during COVID especially when you relocate across the country without touring an apartment. So, I made the best decision I could given the circumstances, but maybe I should have paid closer attention to the reviews. The unit was not move-in ready (overall dirty, dead nats in refrigerator, piece of vinyl flooring damaged, mold/mildew under kitchen sink, heavily soiled carpet) when I picked up my keys in July. Since moving in I have experienced nothing but problems that either go unresolved or addressed after several weeks in response to multiple emails. The building hallways are filthy and desperately need sweeping and power washing. The leasing office is very diligent about collecting payments for admin fee, application fee, rent, etc. Wish they had this same energy with ensuring apartments are move-in ready, in response to maintenance issues and the outside maintenance of property.
We loved our beautiful, spacious apartment (1124). Good rental price, very friendly and helpfull office -and maintance staff. No complaints at all. Best apts in Jacksonville, NC. Gated, beautiful pool area etc.
This complex may appear nice from the pictures, but it intact is not a nice place to live. The staff is rude, the apartments are not worth the price, there a bugs all over the inside of the apartments. The gym is small, the pool is small, the dog parks are small. If you have a pet, i suggest you find someplace more suitable for living, the restrictions are not at all accurate. Service dogs are not welcome here. The heat hasn't shut off in my apartment and the weather has been 80 for the past week. The Refrigerator door is broke. The lighting is terrible. The bathrooms had roaches in them. The apartment was not clean when we first moved in. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE. You are better off renting a house for the same price as a 3 bedroom. If the Staff, and neighbors where more friendly maybe it would get 2 stars.
Williamsburg Place Apartments are very roomy, have spacious closets and bedrooms, and come with laundry rooms and washer/dryers. The ladies are amazing that work there and the maintenance guys take great care of you. The only problem is the general public around the area who think they can utilize the pool and basketball courts whenever they feel necessary. We are constantly having to call JPD to have people removed from the property due to trespassing. Especially from the pool area, and we are a gated community. Otherwise, it's very quiet and I have had no problems. I highly recommend!
We retired here at the Wiliamsburg Place Apartments in February 2015. The apartment itself is very nice and big for a 3-bedroom, 2 bath. They have a washer and dryer in the apartment. The walk-in closets are huge, bigger than our previous house. We owned a house, 4 bedroom - 2 1/2 bath, and don't miss it. This complex is a gated community that has a great pool, cabana, volleyball courts, basketball/tennis court, dog parks, gas and charcoal grills, play park for children and a nice picnic area outside. The main building has a computer room, shuffle board, poker, pool table and an awesome gym to use. Everything has been pretty good except that it takes a nudge or 2 to have maintenance come to take care of a problem, if it's minor. We had a problem with their washing machine in our apartment and it took several complaints and an email to the property manager and the parent company to get it "fixed". The property manager had a new washing machine put in our apartment. The Marine base, Camp Jejuene, is nearby so there are a lot of Marine families living here, which they are very respectful of other people and the property. We made the right decision to retire here from Pennsylvania.
When you think of living in a home surrounded by all of life's amazing ammentities, you realize that choosing to stay in Williamsburg Place is where you need to be! You need to not look any further once you explore what this exciting property has to offer you at a realistic price point.
