Property Ratings at Westlake Apartments
Westlake apartments are nice but you can still hear next door or downstairs neighbors. I wish they have affordable parking spaces it it’s way too expensive and pricey. Location is really nice next to a lot of restaurants. It’s just parking is very hard especially after 4pm.
The combination location and price is great in comparison to other prices around the area. The apartments are surrounded by lots of public transportation and stores, very useful if you don’t own a vehicle or don’t want to make long commutes for groceries or household supplies.

Trash has been a big issue. Many residents don’t pick up after themselves. Trash and old furniture pieces are consistently being left throughout the property and blocking entry ways at time. Another issue has been security. Doors also constantly left unlocked/open by residents and or workers. Grocery carts keep popping up inside entrances and left there.

Pretty well run place, with prompt maintenance for emergencies. But the trash system is horrible - overflowing dumpsters, inadequate recycling bins, no place for returnable cans/bottles. Homeless people and seagulls dig through the dumpsters, throwing garbage on the ground. There should be separate bins for clothing donations, separate bins for returnable bottles, and more recycling bins. Also MUCH more signage to help people know what NOT to put in recycling bins.

It's a nice apartment complex, there is lot's of space which means lots of neighbors but it isn't too much of an issue. Besides that I also really enjoy the fact I have the chance to get my apartment nearby the Westlake shopping center which makes for easy access for something to do or shop.

Be aware Plaza West is highly populated. With the high population you may run into neighborly people and people who just care about themselves. Sound carries easily so expect to hear people talk on their speakerphones overpowering televisions and radios. The maintenance people do an excellent job keeping up with appearance, but expect tenants to trash the laundry room. Kitchen is tiny, no exhaust vent - just an empty unusable space as if a vent was once installed. Focus on actual usable storage instead of looking at square footage.

I really appreciate living here because everything is very organized, Whenever I’ve requested maintenance or support from the office, the response has been very quick, efficient, and solution-oriented, which I value a lot. However, I believe there is room for improvement. The community could benefit from stricter rules to better manage residents’ behavior, especially regarding excessive noise and loud speakers from some units, which often disrupts the peace. In addition, I feel there is a need for stronger security measures. Installing video cameras in the hallways, stairways, garage, and throughout the building would help ensure safety and discourage residents from leaving trash in inappropriate places or engaging in other improper activities. Overall, I enjoy living here, but with these improvements, the community could feel much more peaceful and secure.

It is not the best place to live. It’s a very busy area so it’s never quiet. My husband’s car had gotten towed twice and we cannot get it back. There are roaches inside and rats outside. It’s extremely expensive just for a hole in the wall but it’s cozy and cute.

Overall my experience living here has been somewhat positive. Availability to shops and restaurants is definitely a pro of living here. My unit is decent, nothing out of the ordinary but expensive for 400 sq ft. Security drives around often but I have never seen them do anything. Maintenance does not respect requests of resident. I have asked many times to schedule a time to enter and they just show up and expect to be let in. They have left my door open, I have pets that can escape, and a maintenance man has opened my door without permission. Water in my building is shut off once every 2 weeks for the past couple months and I still can’t guarantee a warm let alone hot shower. There is a rat problem. I hear them in my heater. They got rid of the trash chute so now you have to go to the garbage cans where the rodents scurry around you. Management communication is poor. Need cameras to catch trash dumpers, smokers, and package thieves.

graystar is good company but they have to workout with tenants not breaking front doors locks just because they don’t have access to they unit when in one unit suppost to live on or two persons but live 10 in one bedroom apartment even graystar give one key access only to the persons who is on the least the rest of the residents keep breaking the doors locks to get in to the building that is not fear one person paying for one apartment and other resident living with 10 others just to not pay that much !

I’ve been living in Westlake for over two years now, and I’m quite satisfied. Trader Joe’s and Safeway are close by, and the BART station is also nearby, which makes life very convenient. the parking is bad. it’s said that i have to sit outside for hours with my kids to get a park. sometimes i have to leave my car double parked all night until like six or seven and of course I wake up with a ticket on my car and I live here. This is every day the neighbors bring their friends cars over and hold the park all day and relay coworkers and hold the parks all day. It’s really sad. everything falls apart in here the paint is cheap. The blinds are cheap. They just fall right off and break. I see rats by the garbage cans outside. It’s really bad.

Our overall experience has been fine, but one major downside is the noise from the resident upstairs. We can often hear them, and it gets especially loud at night when they are walking, playing music, or watching TV late. Now we understand why previous tenants in this unit decided to move out. The noise reduction could be better. The neighbor who resides above my apartment constantly makes loud thump sounds. I have always complain about the rat roaming around inside my house and in our building. All tenants was complaining but they didn’t address the problem. Every 2 or 3 weeks there’s a Pest Control checking and putting the mouse sticker with peanut butter but it never help. The more they put the trap the more the rat will come especially in the middle of the night. One time I woke around4 in the morning, as soon as I open my room door 5 big rats running around in the kitchen. Westlake should be paying attention of our problems when it comes to sanitize the property. Some neighbors that I talked to wants to complain to Health Department. This rat problem been a problem for a long time. Before it was a cockroaches not still rats roaming around in the building. Kindly please address this problem. We tried so hard clean our apartment but every day you will see rat poops every where. We want to live here because it’s very convenient but how about our health?

The exterior of the buildings were painted but inside is old. The kind of people who live here (of course not all), have no respect for where they live. Trash outside thrown from their porch, trash left in hallways or stairwells, leakage from trash bags in elevators, halls, stairwell… dog pee in halls & stairwell, poop isn’t picked up when there are bags provided for the community. I am always seeing vomit while walking around, beer bottles and food/trash on the floor. Holes in stairwell walls, mold spore growing in a wall in the stairwell, someone has broken the lobby door twice in about a year, a door handle is currently hanging off, 4 washers & dryers on 2 sides of the building - with as many people who live here is hard! The washers are gross. What they charge for utilities just doesn’t seem reasonable because of the way it’s divided between all tenants/units in building. Layouts of units don’t seem very thought out. Could find roaches, my neighbor had seen some in her unit.
