Hillandale begins on the north side of Duke University and includes the Watts Hospital-Hillandale Historic District. This charming area dates back to 1908 and consists of arts and crafts style homes built in the early 1900s. The neighborhood follows Hillandale Road north to Horton Road. The Crossdaile Country Club is on the west side of the neighborhood. Hillandale is a wooded neighborhood filled with parks, hiking trails, and cozy streets lined with charming homes. Its small-town, rural feel belies its proximity to Downtown Durham, just minutes southeast.
Being so close to Duke University, residents have fast access to Duke University Hospital, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Duke Forest, and the Nasher Museum of Art. On the south end of the neighborhood, the Shops at Erwin Mill is filled with popular shops, restaurants, cafes, and a Whole Foods Market.

Property Ratings at Vivo Living Durham
The people the office are nice. The apartment is okay. The maintenance guy is overworked. The company is dishonest and can't get my account right. Had problems since my move in and everything is deferred to management somewhere else. That management can't be contacted, so they don't care about the tenants. Was given a credit but since the offsite management didn't note that, I now am behind on my account. What local people tell you can be overruled by the offsite management. Plumbing is screwed up on most apartment. Supposedly they are "fixing" the electric, as I keep losing power because two other apartment are using the microwave. Counting down the time till my lease is up.
