Cradled against the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Porterville is known as the Gateway to the Southern Sierra. Porterville offers access to an array of outdoor activities in Sequoia National Forest year-round, from swimming and hiking in warmer months to skiing and snowboarding in colder months. Porterville is also home to local parks such as Zalud Park and Veterans Park, which provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation as well as the Tule River.
Porterville contains a small-town feel with old-fashioned charm and a pioneering spirit sparked by a rich history. Main Street is also the site of many special events like the popular Iris Festival and the Veterans Day/Homecoming Parade.
