Nestled next to the renowned Compton Heights, the Gate is one of the city’s historic neighborhoods. The history of the Gate stretches back to the 1800s, but the Gate is best known as the birthplace of Maya Angelou and is where the Pulitzer prize-winning author and activist lived for part of her childhood.
