Property Ratings at The Tala at Washington Hill
I recently had the pleasure of working with Sabrina at the Tala. The Tala is a gorgeous apartment complex. I felt in very capable hands with Sabrina. She guided me through each space, pointing out all the details and answering every question. Sabrina listened attentively to my needs and preferences. Every aspect of the leasing agreement was clear and tailored to my specific requirements. Thank you, Sabrina, for helping me find a perfect apartment!

Hi there, we are very happy to have provided you with such a positive experience! Thank you for your feedback.
Had a fantastic experience working with Sabrina in the leasing office! She gave a fantastic tour, answered all our questions knowledgeably, and has been extremely quick to respond (like within seconds) to follow-up questions via call and text! By far the best apartment tour experience I had - we filled out an application on the spot!

Hi there, we are very happy to have provided you with such a positive experience! Thank you for your feedback.
I do not recommend living here. As a recent resident for more than 3 years, I can tell you that the new management under The Tala/Mission Rock is incompetent. They will over charge you and then be able to access any records of your payment. The clean and nicely kept building is not worth the extra cost, time, and energy I guarantee you will spend due to errors you will encounter under their mismanagement.

I visited this apartment because it is close to Johns Hopkins. At first, the leasing staff's explanation was ok and I paid application fee. Then the staff changed the requirement to rent the room 3 times within a week. I asked her boss to explain to me correctly and visited the apartment again. Although I visited on time, she did not show up. Two hours later, I received an email that there was an emergency in the apartment and she was there. To me, all these experience were horrible and I told them to return the application fee. The manager told me she will return the fee, but they still do not pay back even after a week….. Very unprofessional and worst leasing staff I have ever met.

Hi, thank you for your kind review; we are happy to pass along your comments to the team here at The Tala at Washington Hill!
Had a great experience with the maintenance staff. They were prompt, friendly, and helpful! They easily fixed my issue and then the next day the leasing office followed up to make sure everything was taken care of.

Hi there, we are very happy to have provided you with such a positive experience! We will be sure to pass your comments along to the team.
Unfortunately, myself and multiple colleagues have experienced significant difficulties with the leasing office staff while living here. I definitely can not recommend living here. I received a renewal letter back in March at which time I returned the letter indicating my interest in renewing. At that time, I made a request to modify the end date on my lease. It is now November (8 months later!) and I still do not have a lease to sign. I have continuously requested this lease and this has continuously fallen through the cracks due to mistakes of the leasing office. I was told by multiple leasing office staff members that they would get a new lease to me with the correct end date with zero follow through. I have made multiple phone calls that have not been returned. Jefferson Square has now withheld my lease for months and started charging me on a month-to-month rate of over $700 more than the rent I signed for!! Each time I talk to someone new they indicate they will fix the issue and then weeks go by without a solution and delayed responding. By the time I hear back, more time has passed and they have already charged another month with an additional $700 up-charge. It is unprofessional, deceitful, and simply illegal to withhold a lease from a tenant while overcharging rent for "not signing." Most recently I have been told that I agreed to the up-charged rent because my previous lease indicated that would be the case if I did not sign a new lease....yet, they have not given me a lease to sign. Once I escalated the problem, local staff told their property management that they "reached out multiple times" ..... I assure you that was not the case and I have spent countless hours trying to find someone to resolve this. I was asked why I waited until October to raise the issue..... which is simply appalling since I raised the issue back in March and have continued to raise this issue since. I don't know why anyone who indicated they wanted to renew their lease would willingly pay an additional $700 each month for no reason. One person offered to refund 50% of the overcharge..... But I am still not sure why they have not fixed the entirety of their mistakes immediately upon hearing about the problems I have experienced. I have had a good experience with other aspects of Jefferson Square but the leasing office is highly problematic. I don't post reviews often but believe it is important for others to hear about my experience as a tenant.
I've been here for about a month and so far so good. I love the location, it's basically across the street from the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The CVS and BB&T bank are on the ground floor and this is very convenient. The apartment is basically new and the amenities including a swimming pool, gym, yoga room, and serenity gardens are nice to use and convenient. The staff is very polite, proactive and helpful. If sirens bother you then this might not before you given the location. Parking for visitors is $5/day which is charged to the resident, otherwise parallel park on the street if parking is available. Take a tour, so far, I'm happy with where I live.
Jefferson Square provides a luxury experience in a convenient location. The apartments have so much open space and natural lighting. The community areas are beautifully decorated and are great spaces to relax or get work done. The staff has been incredibly helpful and friendly. We needed maintenance to come by to fix the dishwasher, and they came on a Friday night even though it was after business hours. We were assured they would always provide timely, professional service when needed, and this has been held true. Luckily, it's a new building so there are not many issues for which to call them!
This is a great building if you want to be close to work at Hopkins, and within walking distance of your social without having to live around a crowded area of the city. I can easily go on runs in the evening, walk to the farmers market and get to work with no problems. These apartments are very nice and well maintained.
2.5 stars. I just want to give an honest review from my perspective as a tenant here for the last 4 months. It is not bad here but I will likely not renew the lease for my current apartment. PROS: Close to Hopkins for families of patients to stay long term. Overall the apartments are nice and clean. The staff is friendly. The gym is nice. The garage is decent and the parking spaces are wide enough for SUV or minivans. There are good amenities CONS: after you move in, your apartment might still need more work as some stuff might not be set up or mounted right, or up to code etc...mine was AC, electric circuit, air vent, some plumbing, fridge problem, and now entrance flooring. The fixing gets done within days though. You do need to clean up the mess once it's done. Some amenities are still not available for use yet such as most of the outdoor space, the pool, etc... but things should be ready for use next summer as I am told. You will hear noise from hospital ambulances and trucks. Fayette, Washington, and Wolfe are busy streets. The building is still under constructions, various people still come in and out but there is a security guard. The price is very high for the area, that may be why the place is still pretty much empty. Many people I refer do not want to move in. IMPORTANT TO KNOW: The rent specials are good for 1 year, after which the rent can and will go up to regular price which is a few hundreds dollars in addition per month. There are also a few fees and penalties that were not clear to me. Had I known a few things I do know now, I would not have moved in either. There is a $500 transfer fee PLUS 1 month rent for break of contract fee if you transfer to another apartment before your lease ends. You have to pay back any specials you have received up to 1 or 2 months rent depending on your particular specials even if you move into another apartment in the same complex. There is a 60 day notice so in my case, if I want to move out today, I have to pay 3 months rent up front. In my personal opinion, move in if you are sure that you will be happy in your apartment for the entire time of your lease and make sure that your income can afford the actual rent without the specials. Just some friendly advice, you can see for yourself.
