Located about 20 miles north of Downtown Boston, Andover is a classic and historic New England gem first settled in 1642. Andover features a beautiful downtown shopping district, complete with historic architecture and cobblestone walkways. Andover extends from the Merrimack River southeast to roughly the Andover Bypass. It is home to the historic Phillips Academy, a preparatory school established in 1778, making it one of the country's oldest high schools. The oldest home in Andover, the Chandler-Bigsby-Abbot House, was built sometime before 1673.
Merrimack College sits on the east side of Andover, making the city popular with students. Other destinations include the Robert S. Peabody Museum of Archaeology, the Addison Gallery of American Art, and Indian Ridge Reservation. Harold Parker State Forest covers more than 3,300 acres across Andover, North Andover, and Reading. Outdoor activities include camping, hiking, biking, and fishing.

My wife and I moved to The Slate in Andover almost a year ago after selling our home in the same town. We love it here! It's very easy living with all maintenance issues handled quickly, professionally and effectively - even when we experienced record cold temps over the weekend. All issues were dealt with timely - which was amazing. The management staff is terrific as well. Very knowledgeable and always willing to help out when needed. I can see us staying here for a while!

Come live here you won't regret it. Family friendly, pets welcome, heated pool, and a pretty cool club house all available for us to use. The ladies in the office rock! Maintenance does there best to get things done in a timely manner. You can't go wrong

They have such a wonderful Staff at The Slate in Andover. Sydney is so pleasant to work with and personable as well as professional. Dawn and Rebecca are as equally pleasant to work with as well and they are very informative and knowledgeable. The Slate in Andover, Ma. Is lucky to have such a great staff providing excellent and friendly service to their tenants. I would recommend this location to reside in to family and friends alike. The Slate has such a great group of people who keep it together and running. Sydney, Rebecca, Dawn, Rich, Aaron and Pablo try so hard at keeping up with the grounds, residents, resident events, and maintenance. The hard work shows, and The Slate has beautiful interior and exterior. I recommend The Slate if you're first time apartment living, or an apartment pro! The Slate is great all around!

Convenient, safe, and calm location, great amenities, nice units. Management puts in a lot of effort into maintaining the property and making sure residents are happy. Maintenance requests are handled in a timely fashion. Would recommend living here to anyone looking to rent in the area!

We lived at the Slate for six years and loved the community, caring and helpful staff, and made lifetime friendships. The complex is always clean, the apartments are modern and beautiful, and the amenities are awesome. What separates it from the rest is the staff -- they are always there to help right away and they genuinely care. Highly recommend living there -- it's the best place we've ever lived!

The Slate has been a very nice place to live the last year. Close to the highway, a short drive to downtown, and it's tucked away from the main road. It's always very clean and the staff is always happy to help out with any request, love the ladies in the office!

I live here at The Slate and I wouldnt have it any other way! Great amenities, neighbors and residents are very friendly, office staff and maintenance are also friendly!! My children love using the pool and the soccer field!! Thank you Slate for being amazing!!

Place is roomy and modern. Love my deck and the walking paths around the building. In fact everyday there are dogs playing with their owners outside my window and it’s my favorite part of the day! Rich is great and helps asap with every maintenance issue.

My husband and I lived at the slate for almost 2 years and it went SIGNIFICANTLY down-hill from day one to today. I'm not even sure where to start with how horrible our experience has been. I'll list the major bullet points To keep it simple - sent us a$7,000 refund check then threatened us about getting it back when we never once argued about the fact we would get it back to them -there was dog poop INSIDE the building on multiple occasions as well as on the outside stairs and would stay sometimes for a few days. VERY EMBARRASSING when you have company over and you have to tell them to watch out for the dog poop - our hallway smelled like urine for the last 5-6 months we lived there and we had been moved out for about 3 months when I got a phone call asking if they could enter my apartment ( that I hadn't lived in for three months) because there is a" weird smell" that they couldn't figure out where it was coming from -the trash rooms were always overflowing with trash - water would be brown randomly -terrible parking at night, done people had to park on the lawn - we lived in Lowell, MA prior to moving to Andover and we saw the police at our Andover apartment much more frequently then we did in lowell.... Abd they NEVER updated the community of the threats that were present ( we later found out there was a major drug/gun bust ) - did I mention they charged us over $5,000 to break our lease ? And they made us pay for the water n sewer for the months our apartment was vacant ( pretty sure the 5k could cover that) - THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS SYDNEY !!!! She's the sweetest ?? We agree, there were a few areas where we needed to improve and I am happy to say that we have made a ton of wonderful improvements and will continue to listen to great constructive criticism. My family and I love living at the slate. The new management, leasing and maintenance teams are doing a phenomenal job at maintaining a clean and pleasant environment to live in. The staff are always eager to help and are so friendly. We love the resident events that they have. We always have a great time meeting and socializing with our fellow residents. We highly recommend living here especially if you have children or furs as they are graciously excepted here.
The trash piles up at least once a week in the chutes. The maintenance is shoddy; walking around the public areas there are a number of areas that were repainted, but it is highly noticeable. The stairways had gouges that were patched, but not painted. There are a number of dents and scratches in the public area walls that have not been touched in months. The carpets in the halls and stairwells are wrought with stains, some of them seem to be dog urine. I’ve been here going on a year and have never seen the carpets cleaned or maintained. As you walk through the courtyard, you are greeted with all of the yellow snow, it smells during the winter, I can’t wait until summer to see how much worse it can get. Last summer I couldn’t open the windows due to the smell. Although it was interesting watching people fighting with the grills that never seem to work. Walking into the building through the garage entrance you are assaulted with the pungent smell of dog excrement. Walking out of the building through the stairwell you get a good whiff of what will hit you again on your way back in. The gym equipment is coated in dust where the residents don’t clean, showing that, like the other common areas, the gym is neglected by the staff. During the snow storm a few weeks ago the staff was unprepared and it showed for the few days until the rain cleaned up their mess while they threatened, to tow their residents. Even with signs posted about keeping doors propped open, they are left unlocked and propped open daily. The worst part about this complex is going to ask questions to the management team. Not only are they unhelpful, and can be sarcastic if you interrupt them playing on their phones, but they constantly feel the need to tell you how hard their jobs are. The only good thing I can say about this place is the amount of business it drives to local small moving companies. I see a new moving company out front once a week with someone else moving out.
I am SOOO happy I decided to move to these apartments! I had to sign the lease after only a facetime walk through of an apartment from Hawaii, and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED when I arrived here. The Staff: I was really stressed out about my move and personal circumstances at the time... but the staff at the apartment leasing office were always so kind, welcoming, and sweet. I never felt so at home. I cannot tell you how many times I was having a bad day and I would go into the office to pick up a package and either Sydney or Mike would go out of there way to give me a kind and deliberate, "Hi! How are you?" I mean, not the kind that is just kind of a generic greeting in passing, but a truly genuine check in of how everything is going. I truly mean it when I say that sometimes, just interacting with them, seeing their positivity and getting a smile when I walk through the door, changes my whole mood and makes my day. Mike has truly made my day on countless occasions. I truly feel lucky to have Mike and Sydney as our office staff! They are always accommodating. I appreciated their organization of the Halloween trick or treat for the kids. I like that they were accommodating when I had to change my garage space several times. They also handle any complaints or questions I have with absolute professionalism and always with a touch of empathy. The Grounds: Always well kept. Very adamant about pets and cleaning up after them. They try to keep the pool open as long as possible, not just until labor day! Maintenance: Easy to submit a ticket for repairs or maintenance. They come usually by the next business day. I have not been disappointed.
