Property Ratings at The Park at Hickory Commons
I have lived here 9 years and it was great in the beginning but it is slipping a lot. The windows leak air and it can be hard to remain comfortable in the winter, three out the last four years I have had water leaking in my bedroom windows due to ice damming, running down the windows onto the carpet and making it wet, taking a week for my bedroom to dry out. Two years ago I was not able to stay in bedroom for 3 weeks, due to dampness and smells. They keep saying they are going to fix but three years in a row now, they just keep putting bandaids on bandaids when it comes to fixing the roof.
I have been here a year. The reason I chose this apt was because when I came to see them, the manager showed me one that was being cleaned and painted and I was so impressed. But there were so many other things that were worse. The apartment was not ready the day I was to move in. Asked for a basket for for the kitchen sink. That took 6 weeks. I’m next to exterior door and that slams shout constantly. Asked if that could be adjusted. Her reply was No! Washers in my hall were gray to black from dye or ink. Whites are not white since I moved here. . The ink is in the dryers too, therefore when I dry whites the lint tray is gray. I asked about a bar in the tub, they said not, there is one outside the tub. Which doesn’t do me any good. The tup is very narrow, not a standard size and very high, it is very difficult to use. I was told that this is not at handicapped building, it is just handicapped accessible. There is nonautomatic handicapped door entrance. Walls in my hall are marked up, and scratches, dirty and ugly. 2 door in this hall were, gray or darker, from being dirty. Exterior door is filthy. Put request to have it washed, that took 6 months Had a loose toilet seat, tightened 4 times, fifth time new toilet seat. Later, sat on it, it went crunch. It was rotted and fell apart. Countertop was seperated, and floor was coming told the manager. She just looked at me, no reply. The building is not energy efficient like ad said, the windows are the cheapest I’ve ever seen, cold air comes through, half of the windows in the building do not open. If you do get them open they are very difficult to close. The sliding parts are broken or gone, cheesy. They do not take care of anything here. They just Waite until they break. Then summer comes, I have an English boxwood bush under my 2 bedroom windows, so if I open them I smell urine. Manager insists its the cats in the area using the space. I checked with Cornell University ext. They said it was the bush. I asked to trim, they took an inch off. Manager said to me if you don’t like the smell, don’t open the windows. We're not removing the bush. This bush shouldn't plant near dwellings. And the only way to get red of the smell is by removing it. Other windows, have 3 air conditioners. One that runs all the time. So it’s like be in a prison. Had to have bathroom tub unplugged twice since they put new water heater upstairs from me. There is no maintenance man in this complex.
