Don’t bother

This apartment complex is infested with black mold, cockroaches, mice, and I’m sure other things hidden within the walls that we can’t see. They doubled the rent but all they did was paint the walls and put in new appliances and cabinets. This complex is better off getting torn down and rebuilt then moving into a complex that was built in the 50s. New management doesn’t care at all about the residence. We’ve sat through many months of construction and have not been given anything in return besides dust inside of our apartment dirt and nails. Definitely not worth the price tag.

Great place to live!

I’ve had a wonderful experience living at this apartment complex! The recent upgrades have truly enhanced the community, making it even more comfortable and modern. From well-maintained amenities to stylish renovations, it’s clear that management takes pride in keeping everything top-notch. Speaking of management, Angie is amazing to work with! She is always professional, friendly, and responsive to any concerns. Whether it’s a maintenance request or a general question, she goes above and beyond to ensure residents feel at home. She gives treats to all the dogs who stop by the office and say Hi The location is perfect, close to freeways, Carlsbad Village, and the beach. If you’re looking for a great place to live with excellent management and fantastic upgrades, I highly recommend Tamarack Sands!

Don’t move here

Horrible experience after this place got new owners. First the new owners straight up lied to us about rent. So much unneeded construction, like putting in new sidewalks even though they were perfectly fine and cutting down every single tree. Don’t be fooled by the pictures in the listing, this place has the classic landlord special. Handles that were barely used were falling off the cabinets in the kitchen. It’s almost like their goal was to figure out how to inconvenience the residents as much as possible, and then make them pay even more money on top of it.

Wonderful Refurbished Community-Exceptional Management

The photos show how beautiful this place is, and they don't lie. What no pictures can show you is the peaceful community we enjoy here thanks to our management team, lead by Naomi Siriano. I'm military and have lived all over the world. We've been happy in a number of spots but I've never felt more at "home" than I do here. People here are low key and mostly young professionals and working folks. There are kids and pups and smiling people but we don't have the crazy noise, garbage, or issues that some of the bigger places have. If you're looking for a fantastic living situation and there are openings here, you should do yourself a favor and check it out. We love living here and hope to stay for the rest of our time in San Diego. I understand that property management really makes a difference, so I'll update if it changes, but right now it's an amazing place with wonderful people.

A little rundown, but excellent location

The complex isn't much to look at, but the apartments are fine. Lots of storage, more than enough floor space, well-kept. Every unit is the same three bed, two bath configuration. Some units have a washer and dryer in them and some just have the hookup, although you can rent the appliances from the manager if she has any available. Speaking of the manager, she's rarely in her office, but she lives on site. The rest of the tenants tend to be either families with kids or groups of 20-somethings. Those apartments will have parties on Fridays and Saturdays and they will play loud music and they absolutely will have drunken arguments in the parking lot. If it all gets too loud too late at night and your neighbors won't listen to you telling them to shut up, the Carlsbad PD is usually pretty quick about responding to noise complaints. Most people in the complex have dogs and/or children. Barking and playing can be heard pretty much from sun-up to sun-down. It fades into the background eventually, along with the constant hum of the 5 freeway and the train a few blocks up the road. This is not a peaceful place, but it is a good place. Doors are open, people hang out on each others' porches, and life is always colorful. The neighborhood: It's about a five minute walk to the beach, and a mile to Carlsbad Village, which can be accessed via the beach boardwalk where people go to walk their dogs and run, or via the trail that runs alongside the train tracks. There's a gas station and a quiet bar across the street. It's next to an elementary school, which is great if you have small children, but less great if you want to sleep past 8 am on a school day. It's one left turn away from being on the freeway, and ten minutes from Oceanside, Vista, or Encinitas. Great for commuters. Despite some flaws, I mostly liked living here.
