Set between I-96 and I-696, Detroit’s Evergreen neighborhood is located about 16 miles northwest of the city center. Students may want to look for apartments for rent near Wayne County Community College, but if you prefer to be near the action, check out rentals closer to West 7 Mile Road. This thoroughfare hosts crab shacks, soul food, pizzerias, and Chinese restaurants as well as several shops and small businesses.
To enjoy the outdoors, head to O'Hair Park behind Henry Ford High School, or check out the crowds and their furry friends at the Milan Playfield. O'Hair Park is named for Mrs. Willis Watts O'Hair, an early founder of Detroit's Recreation Commission. The park, which consists of 78 acres, was established in 1947. Milan Playfield is named for Robert Milan, a prominent WWII veteran who lived in the area. The playfield encompasses 12 acres of greenery and a walking path for both residents and their canines.
