Spaulding Lofts

Spalding's loft is an excellent place to live and we were very happy to sign our fourth lease I have no intentions of moving because everything I need is here We are within walking distance of downtown many restaurants and services close by Hospital ,police /fire department are just a few short blocks away Professional and courteous management and maintenance I feel they have above and beyond to accommodate needs we have had The buildings and grounds are clean at all times The buildings are secure And in the times we live in that means a lot We love the atmosphere here and the history behind the buildings We get so many compliments on our apartment because of the modern industrial look They are constantly making improvements and increasing our amenities I feel blessed to have lived here for the past 4 years and hope this will be my forever home

Put an application in a month ago. They will not return correspondence on status of my application. Or background ? or apartment availability. Phone email it doesn't matter. I've even went to office twice. Both times office was closed during posted open hours.

This realtor never picks up her phone, and takes weeks to respond via email. When we mentioned the lack of communication, we were given an excuse in an annoyed tone, like WE were supposed to know why she had been nonresponsive. I dont enjoy acting like a boomer, but this is one of the few times I feel motivated to leave a bad review. Idk how this apartment has 5 stars when all other reviewers are complaining about this problem. We would have loved to live here.

I spent weeks trying to get ahold of somebody about an apartment. I have friends who live there and they put in a good review and the staff said they would get ahold of me the next day.... never did. Left multiple voicemails, called multiple times with no answer. The same for email, no response besides saying my application was submitted. Very unprofessional, they could at least call back and say the application was declined, they were full, there’s was a waitlist, etc. whatever the reasoning could be. But they decided to be unprofessional ignore.

Really enjoy this historic building with a ton of natural light and original architecture! Christine is the manager and she worked hard to make sure we got whatever we needed and was easy to work with. Highly recommend checking Spaulding Lofts if you're looking anywhere in the Grinnell area. It's a great place!

We got in touch with them back in April when we found out we were moving to Grinnell, Jenny promised that we would have one of two apartments that they had available at the time, sent us the app, and we submitted the app with our application fee ($70 for the two of us) within a couple days of first calling their office. From there, we spent SIX WEEKS trying to continuously get ahold of their office to get an update on the application and to get info on the apartment. The only email correspondence we got was the first email with the application info, then never got a response to a single email we sent after that. I would call multiple times a day (started out only calling twice a day, but after multiple days of getting no one to pick up the phone, I escalated to start calling more times per day to increase the chances that someone might actually pick up the phone), multiple days a week, and it was extremely difficult to ever get ahold of them. Jenny would only answer maybe once out of every 8-10 times I called, and when she did answer, she could never give us concise updates and kept stringing us along. I even called the parent company twice and left a message, and never got a call back. Eventually (at the 6 week mark, after we had literally moved out of our current house because our lease was up, and we were essentially homeless), I was calling 20 times a day and not getting any responses. We had my husband's brother-in-law call to see if that changed anything, and she picked up on the first ring, gave him info on available apartments, and emailed him a rental application and everything. Right after I had just called their office multiple times. At that point we had to give up and came to the conclusion that they were ghosting us for no explicable reason. I have spoken to other new faculty at Grinnell and they have actually had the exact same thing happen to them with Spaulding. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY unless you can literally walk into their office, in-person, and bother them until they give you a place to live. Never had this happen to me before. Completely unprofessional and the most frustrating experience I’ve ever had trying to find a place to live.

Listing says the apartment is 1 bedroom and 802 sq feet, BUT it actually is only about 500 sq feet. The "Model" in the listing is also completely inaccurate. I would have given 0 stars if I could have.
