Artesia is a small desert community in southeastern New Mexico, about halfway between Roswell and Carlsbad on Highway 285. The somewhat secluded city features a vibrant Downtown district, with its eclectic shopping and dining scene complemented by the art deco Land of the Sun movie theater, the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center, and a life-sized sculpture depicting the construction of an oil derrick.
Artesia is home to one of the U.S. Government’s residential sites for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers, which brings in officers of various agencies from around the country.
