Rancho Santa Fe, CA Apartments for Rent
Rancho Santa Fe began as a eucalyptus-timber experiment by the Santa Fe Railway in 1906, and that misstep ultimately produced one of California's most distinctive residential communities. Locally called "the Covenant" or "the Ranch," this small community spans about seven square miles of pastoral San Diego County terrain, where ranches, citrus orchards, and horse stables shape the landscape. Daily life moves at a measured pace, with a handful of restaurants, boutique shops, and community gathering spots in the village core, and the neighboring communities of Solana Beach and Encinitas a short drive west.
Architect Lilian J. Rice master-planned the village in 1928, leaving behind 11 buildings now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. That architectural legacy, combined with the protective Covenant that governs land use and aesthetics, has kept the streetscape remarkably consistent for nearly a century.
