Property Ratings at Park Place at San Mateo
Leasing Staff: Always a POSITIVE experience and prompt assistance from Leasing Staff (Samantha Suarez, Amanda Nygard, Danica Jaffin and John Walden) from when we first toured apartments, to transfers, move-outs (for roommates) and everything (including many inquiries) in between! Maintenance: QUICK SERVICE for repairs! Location: CONVENIENT & SAFE! Parks, Whole Foods, Starbucks, Chipotle, Crunch Gym, Massage Envy and many more right outside your door step! Neighbors: I’ve lived in two separate buildings and all my neighbors (of all ages) have been kind, friendly and respectful. Super pet friendly around here, too! I see complaints about: • construction noise, but personally, IT DID NOT BOTHER ME. And I work from home. They did roof replacements, courtyard demolishing, retrofitting, water leak repairs. Yes, it was noisy, but I knew it would be temporary. I saw the reviews before moving in so I was aware. Hey, it’s apartment living and I’m just glad to know they’re working on making our community well kept and modern. • missing packages: I didn’t really have this problem, but I do track and try my best to get my packages right away. There are complaints about mis-delivered packages, but this is NOT THE FAULT OF THE LEASING OFFICE. In fact, they come in and take the extra step of writing the unit #s on the packages to make it easy for us to find our stuff! It is great here, but can be more expensive compared to other communities in San Mateo. I’ve considered moving due to price, but no other place than PARK PLACE offers everything that is important to me (i.e., prime location, convenience, size, safety, parking, and excellent customer service)!
elevators are broken all the time, what happens if elevator is broken during move in or move out?! walls are paper thin. Leasing office people only nice when you are touring, then completely changes their attitude as soon as you sign those lease. at least treat us like people for a week please? nope, just day 1 straight up rude.
My neighbor plays loud music every day. Contacted leasing office couple of times and there is no resolution whatsoever. Would not recommend to anyone who prefers a quiet place.
The location of this place, its proximity to Whole Foods, a few other shops and easy access from the high way can't be beat. Service people are also some of the nicest, they work around the clock to maintain the units and fix issues. But that's about all that goes for Park Place. There is constant construction, unit tear down or remodeling, and the management somehow feels they are not obliged to give a simple heads up. Buildings are really poor construction with paperthin walls, you could easily hear some neighbor pulling their drawers. It gets worse; the more recent management staff comes off extremely very dismissive, pushing back in all directions in all their communications with the residents. Even the simplest inquiries face push back. Serious advice: STAY AWAY. Find some other place to live.
I've witnessed a serious decline in quality since the new management team was installed. The management team consistently fails to communicate with residents and will often begin construction without providing any courtesy updates as others have noted. Even my noise cancelling headphones can't block out the construction noise! The lack of respect for residents after we sign our lease is quite evident. The maintenance team is great as well as the location. But otherwise, a poorly run apartment complex and I highly(!) recommend looking elsewhere.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! I have lived here 3 years and the only positive thing is their maintenance staff. Those guys work really hard and Joel is the best! The apartments are small and the walls are paper thin. The leasing office staff is not approachable and often has a bad attitude when you need to talk to them. It is not the residents' fault if they are overworked or whatever the issue is, I expected a minimum of the phone calls/emails to be returned. The pool looks nice but it's often closed for maintenance and jacuzzi as well. They have been doing construction on our building #3 giving no updates via email for months. Access to elevators was shut down, and access to our storage unit was closed with no prior notice. We even had to cancel our camping trip because we could not access our camping gear in the storage unit. We just moved out last month and had a horrible experience. First, no one would respond to me for weeks when to schedule an in-person walkthrough of the apartment. I sent at least 5-6 emails asking. They got back to me the day before they wanted me there, so i had to shift all my work meetings to make it. I met Gabriel there who walked with me thru the apartment and said everything was very clean, no issues at all. Yesterday, i got a message saying that i have to pay the following: $537.98 for giving insufficient notice. I gave 30 days notice while my lease was on a month to month basis already $350 for cleaning. I paid professional cleaners to clean the place already and they are asking I pay again $112.50 for wall painting. We left no holes and painted the walls. $90 carpet cleaning. The carpet was not new when i moved in and had many stains. The carpet was also cleaned by the professional cleaners i hired before moving out With all of this, they kept my entire rent deposit and are saying owe them money! And of course, no one is responding to the email i sent yesterday. This is super frustrating. Even if you have a nice walkthrough inspection, they will keep all your money and ask for more. My friend who moved out last year warned me about this but i was hoping it was just a mistake that happened to her. Every place i have ever lived in considers that there is normal "wear and tear" when a tenant leaves. I was there for 3 years and took good care of the apartment. They will treat you nicely to get you in, but treat you poorly on your way out keep all your money and ask for more.
Pros: The only real pro is the location. It's conviently located next to food places, whole foods and the event center. The apartments look nice but aren't worth it because of bad customer service. Cons: Once you become a tenant, office staff does not respond via email or phone. Tenants have to hunt someone down to talk to anyone. The hot tub is always "under repair." To top it off the elevator in my building was frequently broken. It was broken on my move in and move out dates. Evidenced by the inspection permit not being updated since 2020. Also be careful during the move out process. You will be billed for things the complex is responsible for. Such as black mildew on the windowsills (problem in many units), grouting and dust in ceiling fixures only maintenance can access. And last but not least, expect rent to go up at least $200 when renewing.
Park Place is a very beautiful place to live. It has soo many conveniences close by especially my favorite right across the street, Pete's coffee and Whole Foods, many beautiful parks, etc. I am so sad to leave all that behind, but have to move on for personal reasons. Thank you Tiffany and Megan for everything. You guys are great!
I live here for about a year and my lease is about to be up. I honestly wish i didn't have to leave i'm leaving because my rent went up about six hundred to renew. I am not sure that there is a perfect place the staff was ok. No complains there. There was a lot of construction and the only problem i had that was never solved was these little skinny bugs that would show up on the wall and ceiling not sure what they were but when i told a staff member about it she told me they don't bite and that they run in the carpet. This grossed me out because i had a baby. I hate moving so i still wished the rent didn't go up that high.
I think this is one of the nicest areas to live and the apartments are great. The bottom line is I would have not reason to move, except its such a nice place and perfect location that rents are going thru the roof. If you have the funding, this is a great place!
I love living in my apartment complex. I have a wonderful and roomy kitchen, my apartment overlooks a garden walkway. I enjoy the roominess of my one bedroom apartment complete with my own washer/dryer in the unit. Where I live is close to the train, highways and a shopping complex with Whole Foods. The amenities of the apartment are a saline cleaned pool and jacuzzi, a full gym, and a business center and a clubhouse for parties. The appliances are all quality and durable and the complex is peaceful with no loud music. It's great to come back to my apartment and relax. Come see for yourself. Remember, just like Park Place in Monopoly.
