Jimmy's works perfect for big groups, or very indecisive pairs. Try the chicken curry and tikka combo, as well as the kung pao chicken. The burgers are pretty phenomenal as well.

History

Elk Grove started in the 1800's as a crossroads for travelers to and from Sacramento. The humble beginnings of the city set the stage for a family-friendly community, focused on honest business and trade. The City of Elk Grove operated independent of Sacramento until the 1980's when the two cities' development paths met.

Elk Grove became incorporated in 2000, and etched a reputation as an unconventional suburb. Residents of the city do not see Elk Grove as an accessory to Sacramento. Transportation

Bikers can navigate Elk Grove, as the city does have some bike lanes and paths that connect to the downtown area of the city. Bikers should still take caution on many main roads, as designated bikes lanes do not always exist. Commuter buses connect outer Elk Grove to the Sacramento light rail, and city buses connect it to Downtown Elk Grove, as well as some nearby parks. Uber and other taxi services are also available in this neighborhood.

Folks occasionally walk to get to parks or shops adjacent to where they live, but most get around Elk Grove by car. Nearby Interstate 5 and Highway 99 provide quick transport into Sacramento. Public parking in Outer Elk Grove can typically be found despite many small streets.

Cost

You can find most of your day-to-day shopping locations, such as Target, Home Depot, and Walgreens, on nearby Laguna Boulevard. Laguna also has plenty of smaller, locally-owned shops and businesses to explore.

Old Town (downtown) Elk Grove has lots of shops, restaurants, and businesses. Old Town also hosts many of the city's events, including the Old Town Elk Grove Chili Festival, Food Truck Mania, and the Dickens Street Faire. Established in 1868, the historic architecture and wide sidewalks make this a destination you'll want to visit often after moving to your apartment in Elk Grove.

In terms of groceries, Safeway and Raley's are a short trip away. For something more local, Sprouts has a fantastic selection of locally sourced and organic produce. The Nugget, another local grocery store, also has a fantastic selection. For affordable produce, stop by the Laguna Farmers Market. Find it at the Laguna Gateway Center from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.

Parks

Locals know nearby Morse Park as one of the most wonderful parks in the Sacramento area. Locals enjoy the expansive open space the park provides. They have small and large dog parks for off leash play, and a nice water-feature play area for kids as well. Bring a basketball and play a pickup game, or bring your family and barbecue. The park does not have an entry free.

Local Foulks Park has no fee and has fun play equipment for kids, as well a nice jogging trail. Be sure to make use of the barbecues and picnic tables, as well as the tennis courts and soccer field.
