West Des Moines combines suburban comfort with city conveniences in one of Iowa's growing communities. The Historic Valley Junction district preserves the area's railroad heritage through its collection of independent shops and eateries. Miles of trails wind through local parks and green spaces, while Jordan Creek Town Center stands as Iowa's largest shopping complex. The rental market remains stable, with one-bedroom apartments averaging $1,096 per month and three-bedroom units averaging $1,597.
Home to over 68,000 residents, West Des Moines has evolved from its railroad town roots while preserving its historic charm. Housing options range from historic properties near Valley Junction to residences near Glen Oaks Country Club. Major employers including Wells Fargo, Microsoft, and Hy-Vee contribute to the local economy. Notable areas include Glen Oaks, Valley Junction, and the Jordan Creek district, each with its own character and amenities.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Olde English Village
one of the worst places I've lived in DSM. Constant weed and other drug activity, loud neighbors blasting music late into the night, general low upkeep of the apartments and the inside of the buildings. Management is nice enough, but apathetic and the maintenance workers are also nice and try their best, but don't seem to have a lot of support from Management. My apartment had cigarette burns all over the carpet and stains on the walls, constant pest problems with mice, and in general just not worth the money you pay. When I moved in I was told this was a non smoking complex only to discover that tenants can smoke whatever they want in their apartments, but not in the building hallways. If that sounds great to you, then this place is right up your alley. If you're looking for a safe and healthy place to live, I would look elsewhere.
With all the remodeling that has been done, they definitely aren't old looking anymore like old reviews say. Management is very friendly and understanding. Maintenance is always quick to respond. My neighbors are quiet and courteous. I have been completely satisfied the year I've been here.
Understanding Flexible Easy to work with A bit pricey Conveniently located
Old English Village Apartments is a little on the older side, but at the same time, they have great floor plans and layouts. I like the fact that they have a little hallway in the apartments, especially the two bedroom, making it feel a bit like a house. Maintenance service is on point and very helpful. They also have a nice pool area and little gym in the clubhouse. Lastly, the staff is great. The customer service is just what it needs to be and I like that they give us updates and newsletters as to what's going on around the apartments.
Great amount of space and large walk in closet in the Master Bedroom. Bathroom is large and has nice amenities however the lack of laundry machines is beyond frustrating. Dishwasher/plumbing is old and requires regular maintenance/upkeep. Management staff is easy to work with but unfortunately they don't seem to have much influence or ability to get things changed for the building. Overall not bad for the price but definitely would change some things.
Olde English Village is a great place that is close to the interstate, several shopping areas, grocery stores, gas stations, and several businesses and schools. They have a pool and fitness center, and they have a great woodsy feel to them, despite being so close to the interstate! We have loved our time here, and have lived here for almost 8 months now. We will be renewing our lease. It's the perfect in between for people who want a decent apartment and amenities without paying a TON of money for them.
We just moved into these apartments and as of now we are enjoying living here. There are several pros and cons to the apartment complex, but overall we feel it is a good place to live. We got the two bedroom, two bathroom, so the review is based off of that unit. Pros: -Larger units for a decent price -Water gets hot very quickly -Very woodsy/nature-y feeling to the place -VERY close to the interstate -Centrally located to lots of shopping, restaurants, and other places to visit -Pretty quiet, even though it's close to major roadways -LOTS of storage space -Large bathrooms -Plenty of outlets in all rooms -Was well cleaned when we moved in -Fitness Center (with free weights!) -Pool -Package holding at office -High speed internet available -Office staff seems very friendly Cons: -Shared laundry with the building. -Carpet inside buildings (not the units) is very "gross" looking -Smoking is allowed in the units, so if you are sensitive to smells like that, you will need time to adjust or to febreeze a lot! -No lights in the living room or bedrooms, so make sure you bring some floor lights or lamps! -West Des Moines water is BAD, so plan on getting a water filter (this is less an issue with the apartment and just an issue with the area) -Foliage obstructs availability of satellite TV in most of the units -Seems to be hard to heat/kind of cold in the bedrooms
Lived here for six months and really liked the apartments. Pool opened after Memorial Day and was awesome. Would recommend to friends
1. I didn't make enough minimum wage to live there, although I've been living on my own in Iowa City, made every rent payment, never late. 2. My dog Bentley who is the sweetest dog in the world, is a lab mix/boxer/beagel. and they wouldn't let me have him there because he is dangerous to other dogs and humans. This whole pitbull craze and them being aggressive dogs needs to stop!! Because it is not the dog that's aggressive, it's the owner and how they raise and treat the beautiful animal. Enough said. and thanks, I was interested in your apartment, and we woulda gotten along fine. If only I made 3 fricken dollars more and "got rid of my dog" like you told me to. Ridiculous
