The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Monterey Pines Apartments
Bottom Line Up Front: They will try to extract as much money as possible from you. Commonly they would give verbal assurances, but would fail to follow through. Ensure you get every agreement in email and know that you will not be getting your full deposit back when leaving. I lived at Monterey Pines Apartments while I was attending school for over 2 years from September 2019 to December 2021. When discussing the rates and living conditions 2 months prior to moving in, they initially told me that I would have a specific rate and a newly remodeled apartment with new countertops, but this was not the case. Upon checking in, I was given a higher rate and worse apartment than they had promised me. My, next issue is that I had agreed upon a departure date verbally 3 months prior to my departure, but it must be in writing/email at least 1 month prior to your departure or they will continue you on a month to month lease with increased rent. They never attempted to call me or email me confirming departure and were more than happy to collect extra rent while I was no longer in the area. My last issue was that my "deposit" was used to cover maintenance upon leaving. They will justify it with miscellaneous costs. I think it would be hard to find anyone who was returned their full deposit. If you want to live here ensure you get everything in email or they will try to extract every dollar possible from you. They are friendly, but not your friends and see the tenants as dollar signs. I would highly recommend finding another place to spend your money and time while in Monterey.
Please do not move here! The leasing office team is incompetent. Dog poops everywhere! Pool is never cleaned. Dumpster is always full. Laundry machines always break down, and they tried to limit the water amount in the laundry machines!!! Clothes are never cleanly washed! No enforcement at all! Please someone, tell Melissa, the lazy front desk lady with the all wrinkled eyes to put on some appropriate clothes!! Why is it that she always wear mini skirts, short dresses, and yoga pants to work? Does she think work is her living room? Show some professionalism, please have some respect for yourself and put on some professional attires or at least at length knees skirts/dresses. We know, we know, this job doesn't pay well, and it's Monterey, but again, have some respect for yourself. Maintenance request takes forever, asked for a simple fixed regarding sink disposal and it took almost a month.
Lived here now for about a year now and the complex is clean, well groomed and has friendly on site staff. They have activities for tenants to participate and maintenance requests are attended to very quickly. Apartment I am in is basic, but ok for the area (i know they have upgraded units) and pricing is expensive but no higher than any other apartment so good ?? would definitely recommend this place.
This place was once very nice, and affordable. The new management is lacking, and the rent has increased more in the last 4 year than it has in the 15 years before. I've had things mysteriously gone missing, and property mysteriously destroyed, such as the table of contents ripped out of one of my books, and a micro usb cable bent with pliers.
My husband and I moved here over two years ago. We love the feeling of being in Lake Tahoe, the surrounding forest gives the complex a quiet, mountain feel. We have been surrounded by wonderful, kind, and quiet neighbors. The staff has always been very responsive, caring, friendly and quick to react to any issues we have had regarding maintenance issues. Yes, we also love the fact that they are so dog friendly, it has been a blessing for us to be so welcomed with our dog!!! We have just welcomed our niece to our complex, we would not have encouraged her to rent here if we thought she would not love it! All apartments in Monterey are expensive! These are very comparable with what's on the market today. You will not be disappointed in your choice of Monterey Pines, see you in the laundry room!!!
Time stayed there wasnt bad just wayyyyyy to expensive for not much, I was military and was annoying not having a online bill payment system and the people at the front desk generally tried to nickel and dime you and they will NEVER give you back a security deposit regardless of how clean you keep the apartment. I stayed in my apartment for 2 MONTHS and only had a queen bed and a beanbag as furniture, no kid no pets and didnt receive my security deposit back so be weary. Military unless youre desperate for a place spend your money and time elsewhere so you can stretch your BAH.
This place has new management and they suck. They raised the rent $200 and they don't treat tenants well. They never answer the phone and if you need something fixed it takes forever. They act like your bothering them. They will continue to raise the rent yearly . look for somewhere else if possible.
Property Manager at Monterey Pines Apartments, Responded To This Review
We apologize if the impression you have of our management is less than stellar. We are here 7 days a week, and pride ourselves in top-notch service. Please let us know how we can resolve this, if possible. The rents are determined by the market/economy, and the trend has been statewide. We make it our prerogative to keep it as affordable as possible. Please contact our office, and allow us review the particulars of your situation. We receive hundreds of calls per day, and with an office staff of only 2 or 3, we do our best to answer every call. If we can't answer at that moment, please leave a message. We will get back to you as soon as humanly possible; your call is very important to us. If there is anything else we can discuss, we'd love to hear from you. Let's talk over some coffee! Monday-Sunday 9am-6pm. Sincerely, Monterey Pines Management 831-372-5100
I've lived in the complex for about five years. A recent change in ownership has helped push the price of rent into territory many renters with a long-term interest in Monterey simply cannot afford. In fairness, this is something of a trend in all apartments within the postal code, but considering the dated finishes, asbestos ceilings, and inefficient appliances, I don't feel the price is warranted for the space or location. That said, the layouts of the apartments, despite their age, are fairly conducive to modern living and the grounds themselves are well-maintained. The maintenance staff is absolutely stellar: great guys, very friendly, very professional, and very quick to resolve any minor issues encountered in an older apartment. The price of rent tends to encourage roommate arrangements that can become illegally dense, and often very noisy (I'm a young, fun woman, and certainly don't begrudge the occasional party or late-night drinks, but I can't handle the noise-level encountered on weekends in my section of the complex). All in all, I'll be leaving soon, if for nothing other than to save some cash, but for the time I've stayed here, I've had no earth-shattering complaints.
The application process was easy and the management team does everything to help the move in process easy and smooth. Neighbors are respectful, the complex is very clean, and best of all the apartment complex is pet friendly. Taco truck Fridays, plenty of washing machines, 2 clean and heated pools, pool table, BBQ pits and a place to practice your golf swing. We are very happy to be here!
We call our apartment our tree house... we live in an enchanted forest with beautiful grounds... staff is not just friendly, but kind. We enjoy a year-round heated pool in the sunbelt of Monterey. The only tricky thing about living here is that you need to avoid keeping tall plants on the balcony... these are an engraved invitation to house-hunting raccoons, who love to take up residence in the attic (can't blame them for wanting to live here, too!); when this does happen, however, management removes the raccoons humanely. We love waking up to views of endless trees and wish we could live here forever!
Check the yelp reviews, they are more accurate to this place. It is expensive and the office staff don't hold regular office hours (even the day before rent is due.)
