A dedicated laundry area with a stacked washer and dryer adds practical convenience. The bathroom is finished with a granite-topped dark wood vanity, large-format white subway tile walk-in shower, and neutral floor tile. The upper level offers a carpeted loft space with a ceiling fan, open railing overlooking the main floor below, and access to an additional room framed by the same signature exposed beams. Large multi-pane windows on the upper level flood the space with natural light. Together, the two floors deliver a cohesive, industrial-chic aesthetic with thoughtful modern amenities throughout.

This thoughtfully designed single-floor space offers a series of interconnected communal areas that blend contemporary aesthetics with functional comfort. The layout is anchored by a striking central corridor featuring a floor-to-ceiling dark slate fireplace wall, flanked by clusters of charcoal upholstered armchairs arranged around a circular coffee table — ideal for relaxed conversation or quiet reflection.

Throughout the space, bold horizontal striped flooring in tones of sage green, tan, charcoal, and cream creates a strong visual rhythm that ties the areas together. A defining architectural feature is the recurring sculptural wall installation — a grid of interlocking, wave-shaped panels crafted from light-painted wood and rich dark reclaimed timber — adding texture, depth, and artistic character to multiple zones.

One area is dedicated to casual dining, outfitted with sleek black and lime-green chairs surrounding dark tabletops, complemented by a bar-height counter with black stools. Pendant lighting in warm tones enhances the inviting atmosphere. A separate lounge area features a full sofa arrangement, additional armchairs, a wall-mounted television, and an entertainment unit.

A historical mural depicting a mill scene adds a meaningful nod to local heritage, while recessed and pendant lighting throughout ensures each zone is well-illuminated. The overall ambiance is polished, welcoming, and purposefully designed for community gathering. This single-floor space masterfully combines industrial heritage with contemporary design. Exposed red brick walls serve as a striking architectural focal point throughout the living areas, complemented by a rustic sliding barn door that adds both character and function. Multiple skylights flood the space with natural light, while ceiling fans ensure year-round comfort.

The kitchen is well-appointed with rich dark wood cabinetry, granite countertops, a full suite of stainless steel appliances, and a warm butcher block island counter that doubles as a casual dining surface. Track lighting illuminates the kitchen and adjacent open living area, which features plush neutral carpet underfoot.

The bedroom is a generous, light-filled retreat showcasing exposed dark wood structural beams that add warmth and a loft-like aesthetic. A skylight overhead and a ceiling fan enhance the room's open, airy feel, and a walk-in closet provides ample storage.

The bathrooms are finished with clean, modern tile work. One features a walk-in shower with white subway tile surround and chrome fixtures, while the other includes a granite-topped vanity with an undermount sink and matching dark wood cabinetry. Throughout the space, neutral gray walls tie together the blend of raw, industrial elements and refined modern details. This fitness center occupies a generously sized, single-floor space distinguished by its striking architectural character. Exposed wooden beams span the ceiling overhead, complementing the decorative white columns that rise throughout the main exercise area, lending the space a historic charm blended with modern functionality. The ceiling height is notably elevated, contributing to an open, airy atmosphere throughout.

Large, multi-pane windows line the walls, allowing ample natural light to fill the room and providing views of the surrounding exterior. The flooring features a patterned carpet tile design in shades of blue and gold, adding visual interest underfoot while providing cushioning during workouts.

The main floor is well-equipped with multiple treadmills, elliptical machines, and stationary bikes arranged for efficient use of the space. A dedicated strength training zone includes cable machines, weight benches, and resistance equipment, while a separate functional training alcove houses TRX suspension straps, a dumbbell rack, medicine balls, and a stability ball. A wall of mirrors expands the visual depth of the strength area. Ceiling fans and fluorescent strip lighting ensure comfort and visibility throughout. Snack and cold drink vending machines are conveniently located near the entrance. A water fountain is also accessible within the space. This single-floor space showcases an open-concept design that seamlessly connects the living area and kitchen. The layout is anchored by a striking live-edge wood breakfast bar, which doubles as a natural focal point and casual dining surface. A geometric pendant light hangs above, providing warm, focused illumination over the kitchen area.

The kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances, including a microwave and range, and features dark wood cabinetry paired with granite-style countertops. A structural column partially divides the kitchen from the main living area, adding architectural definition without closing off the space.

The living area is finished with light-toned carpeting, contributing to a soft, neutral ambiance throughout. The walls are painted in a cool gray tone, complementing the overall modern aesthetic. Recessed lighting in the living area provides additional illumination. A solid entry door with a peephole is visible at the far end, and what appears to be a utility closet is accessible nearby. The overall design balances functional living with contemporary finishes.

About Mill No. 1

Mill No. 1 is an adaptive reuse of 19th century cotton mill buildings into a mixed-use development project of apartments, offices and restaurants, developed by Terra Nova Ventures, LLC. The architecture team, Alexander Design Studio, has figured out how to make this complicated project work, while keeping the integrity and character of the historical buildings. The buildings straddle the Jones Falls stream for about a third of a mile stretch of this pristine and beautiful section of the Jones Falls. This setting is what distinguishes and makes the property unique among the mill buildings situated in the Jones Falls Valley in Baltimore. Text or call for more information!

Mill No. 1 is an apartment community located in Baltimore City County and the 21211 ZIP Code. This area is served by the Baltimore City Public Schools attendance zone.

Neighborhood

Hampden is only of Baltimore’s trendiest neighborhoods to live and is known for its quirky flair. Once a 19th-century mill town, Hampden has transformed into an enclave for food, nightlife, and art. The neighborhood’s main drag is “the Avenue,” a thoroughfare with an impressive set of independent businesses. Art galleries, vintage shops, and diverse eateries with 3-D signage shape Hampden’s unique culture. Special events like the annual Miracle on 34th Street celebration and Hon Fest (a celebration of beehive hairdos) abound in this bustling neighborhood. Affordable to upscale rentals in every style are available for rent from new apartments to charming rowhouses. Adding a youthful flavor to the area, Hampden is also near Johns Hopkins University, so it’s a great choice for students, faculty, and staff.
