With a population of about 101,000, Las Cruces is the largest city in southern New Mexico -- but it doesn't feel that way. With its fantastic mountain views and spacious landscape, the city feels downright cozy. Las Cruces is a college town -- it is the location of New Mexico State University, the only land-grant university in the state. It is also the location of the White Sands Missile Range. Mountains surround Las Cruces, providing amazing views as well as opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and camping.
Due to its impressive landscape, Las Cruces is often used for filming. Some movies filmed here include Hang 'Em High, Twins, and Traffic. After moving to a Las Cruces apartment, be sure to attend some of the city's annual events, which include the Harvest Wine Festival, the Whole Enchilada Fiesta, the Southern New Mexico State Fair, CrucesCon, and Cowboy Days. Landmarks in Las Cruces include its water towers -- many are painted with murals.

Property Ratings at Mesilla Valley Apartments
I have lived here for 5 years. The apartments are bare minimum to say the least with no amenities (not even a play area for kids, children have to play in the parking lot or in the filthy back area)and the back are is in need of being cleaned up as it is littered with trash and "paraphernalia". There is no security (location is a high crime area)and no peep holes in front doors and maintenance takes a long time to fix anything with either the cheapest parts or parts that are second hand. The apartments down stairs have tile, but the apartments up stairs have carpet that looks and feels like it was glued to the concrete (no carpet pad)and mats easily which makes it impossible to clean. There is little storage, old (and falling apart) cabinetry and appliances in the kitchen and bathroom, old drafty windows, and old wiring and pipes and a laundry room that is not maintained (and there is no access to a money changer, but that is just my annoyance). There are only two dumpsters for two buildings which is not enough and forces residents to either wait to dispose of household trash or find other means to dispose of it. Management has had problems with allowing residents who have criminal records and who still continue to break the law in. If management would be clean up the property, provide more security, provide proper and quality maintenance, supply two more dumpsters, provide a few amenities (i.e. a safe play area for kids and property maintenance or landscaping), and do more thorough background checks on possible residents without raising the rent too much, this place would not be too bad.
There is not much to say about these apartments. They are cheap, but with no amenities. There are only two appliances (Stove, and fridge) in the apartment, and they are usually old. Maintenance is slow to fix anything and if something needs to be replaced, parts will usually come from the Restore or some place like that.
