Walker’s Point has become a restaurant hotspot in Milwaukee. Newer lofts mingle side-by-side with older brick apartment buildings in this quasi-industrial, trendy neighborhood, which sits immediately southwest of Milwaukee's downtown.
As you stroll the streets past the neighborhood's mix of popular bars and tapas joints, you’ll find an incredible mix of upscale choice. Restaurants in Walker's Point tend to use locally-sourced food, some from artisanal producers right in the neighborhood. National Avenue and Interstate 43 serve as the major thoroughfares in this part of Milwaukee, making it easy to commute across the river or anywhere else.

Property Ratings at Mercantile Lofts
I’ve lived in this building for five years under three different owners, and somehow, they keep getting worse. This past year has been an absolute nightmare. • No heat all winter, and when I asked for a rent credit, they refused. • Ceiling leaked water for two weeks before maintenance even acknowledged it. • Had to call the city twice just to get basic repairs done because management won’t take action unless forced. • The big windows might look cool, but they’ve all failed—letting in freezing air all winter long. If you like living in an apartment where nothing gets fixed, your neighbors leave trash everywhere, and the only way to get help is by calling the Department of Neighborhood Services, this is the place for you. I genuinely love the neighborhood, but there are so many better places to live. If you’re thinking of moving here, do yourself a favor and check out Taxco instead—it’s much nicer and owned by someone who actually cares about Milwaukee, not some greedy landlords from Chicago.
The staff are professional, polite and supportive. My apartment was nice and clean when I moved in. I was a little concerned about the area but it’s actually ok! The short walk to Bontana’s is definitely a plus. I really enjoy my living space.... and the tall windows provided a great as well.
Current resident here, Mercantile has GORGEROUS apartments. I currently rent a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom and the granite countertops, spacious bedrooms, polished concrete and vaulted ceilings can't be beat. The workout equipment in the basement is also a definite perk. My only complaints are the neighbors like to leave trash all over by the dumpster instead of picking up what doesn't make it in, trash in the lobby, and I have even had someone leave throw up outside the elevator doors! My other complaint is that the parking lot isn't secured- we have had multiple break-ins in cars in a lot that is supposedly "monitored" from midnight till 5 am; for what we pay for as far as parking monthly I think our cars should be ALOT safer.
I've lived at Mercantile for about 18 months and have no major complaints, I have a 2bed/2bath unit. The views are unbeatable, the lofts are spacious with brand new everything. Counter tops are granite and fridge/washer/dryer/shower is all full size (in my 7 years of Milwaukee apartment-living experience... that is hard to find). There is a basement gym with 2 tvs, 2 treadmills, a bike, an elliptical, and various free weights. There are security cameras on the parking lot & stairways. Pets are allowed, and if you have a dog you know how hard it is to find a place that is both nice and pet friendly(!!) this place meets both of those criteria. This place is about 1 mile from downtown/wisconsin ave in milwaukee and walking distance to a TON of great restaurants and events. Walkable to: MKE night market, FUEL, MOTOR, twisted fisherman, poto, MKE brewing and , purple door, a handful of great mexican places, engine company #3, the national cafe, anodyne coffee, the iron horse hotel bars/restaurants & many more. The rent is what I would expect for the size, location, amenities, and pet-friendly nature of the building. Parking is also reasonable compared to downtown. I know other reviews are mentioning car break ins... but that is in no way specific to the building or management - its downtown in an upcoming neighboorhood and anyone in the city runs that risk. If you've lived in any major city for any length of time, you know not to leave valuables VISIBLE in your car in order to reduce/eliminate the risk of a car break in.

I have been living in Mercantile Lofts for 7 months now and it has been great. Never seen a car broken into as other posters have stated. Walk my dog through neighborhood at night and never had any issues. Management has been great with package deliveries. The storage area in the basement is very nice that each unit gets. Had a great experience so far with no major issues.
