Downtown Macon is probably best known as the home of Mercer University. But there's much more to this historic, Southern gem than that -- Downtown Macon is home to a variety of unique museums, several Antebellum Homes, and the state's oldest church. Macon, nicknamed "The Heart of Georgia" because of its central location, began with Fort Benjamin Hawkins in 1809. Some of the historic homes include the impressive Hay House, built in 1855. The Italian Renaissance Revival mansion is open for tours as well as a popular location for weddings. The Cannonball House and Museum, built in 1853, is the only house in Macon to be hit by a cannonball during the Civil War.
Located along the Ocmulgee River, Downtown Macon is as picturesque as it is historic. It is also a college town, so you'll discover a variety of funky shops, art galleries, coffee shops, and restaurants.

Property Ratings at Lofts At Capricorn
You pay a premium price to live in these downtown lofts because they have an infinity pool, gated parking, valet trash, an open floor plan, etc. But here's the truth: the (small) pool is always overcrowded with non-residents; the parking gate breaks weekly so most days the gate just stays open for anyone to enter; residents leave their trash in the hallways all the time (not just during valet pick-up times) so you smell their rotting garbage every day; and the "open floor plan" units have cheap laminate floors, so you're subjected to listen to every single thing your neighbor does throughout the night. Do yourself a favor-- DON'T fall victim to the trendy pictures, the downtown location, the walkability factor...I can promise you, the amenities you think you'll get in return will not give you the ROI you were hoping for.
I have been here for a almost 2 months and absolutely love it!! The complex is super nice and my 2 Bedroom apartment is great! I love the updated look of it, including the floors and granite counters! The location is perfect! Although not in the heart of downtown, the tons of downtown shops and restaurants are so easy to walk to! The office staff is super helpful and have addressed any questions/issues that I have had in a timely manner. I highly recommend this place to anyone!
Great place to live HOWEVER the front door to my building (4) has been broken for over 6 months now. Sometimes it unlocks but most of the time it won’t unlock which is extremely inconvenient. We have been living here for a year and a half and haven’t had many issues, but we have discussed this issue with management several times and the problem can’t seem to be fixed. It is kind of ridiculous that for the amount we pay to live here we can’t enjoy simple conveniences such as a properly functioning front door. I have talked to other residents about this and they have also voiced their frustrations with the door issue. I want to give the place five stars because I’ve loved everything else about living here, but I am tired of the problem not being solved.
