History & Culture

The city of El Monte was originally inhabited by Native Americans and during the 1840s, early pioneers moved to the area in search of gold and eventually settled. Transportation

El Monte occupies an area to the East of Los Angeles on Interstate 710 and Interstate 110. It should take a commute of around 17 minutes to drive from El Monte to downtown LA via Interstate 110 West. El Monte has public on-street parking as well as various parking ramps. It takes about 25 minutes from El Monte to reach Los Angeles via the metro bus route 707. Several metro routes service the area and connect El Monte to the greater Los Angeles metro and outlying areas. El Monte can easily be navigated by bicycle or on foot. A bike and walking path runs along the river and connects to neighboring areas in the Los Angeles. The City of El Monte also provides several services to it's residents, such as commuter shuttles, youth transportation, dial-a-ride and senior transportation.
