Federal, Greek Revival, and late Victorian architecture define the tree-lined streets of picturesque East Haddam, a close-knit community located about 25 miles southeast of Hartford. Its historic district, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, contains the legendary Godspeed Opera House, also listed on the register. Homes
and rentals nearby enjoy proximity to the Connecticut River, which runs through East Haddam and around the back of the opera house.
I-91 and CT-17 also run through East Haddam, making most of Durham
and greater Connecticut accessible from anywhere within this very green neighborhood. Although relatively close to Hartford, East Haddam packs a unique assortment of novelty and local culture between its streets. Locals hike along train tracks converted to trails in the Gillette Castle State Park in the Hadlyme section. The Godspeed Landing allows residents to launch "car top" boats onto the Connecticut River. Meanwhile, neighbors have a chat and some salad from Cold Spring Farm at the East Haddam Farmers Market every Wednesday.
