Wedged between some of Austin's
most buzzed-about neighborhoods like Travis Heights, South Congress,
Bouldin, and South Lamar,
Dawson is sometimes overlooked. But that's okay with Dawson residents, who appreciate this neighborhood's laid-back vibe. Dawson begins along Ben White Boulevard and extends north to East Oltorf Street, with St. Edward's University located on its east side, opposite South Congress Avenue.
While living in a Dawson apartment puts you near the never-ending action of SoCo, Dawson's quiet-but-trendy hangouts may end up being your favorite places. Porter, for example, is a terrific pub featuring a huge selection of craft beers. If you enjoy wine but don't like the pompous atmosphere of most wine bars, head to the Infinite Monkey Theorem, and urban winery that promises a ridiculously good wine without the pretense.
Renting in Dawson provides a wooded, quieter community with easy access to everything Austin. Downtown is just two miles north, and all of the parks along the Colorado River -- including Zilker Metropolitan Park and Butler Park -- are minutes away. On the west side of Dawson, Barton Creek Greenbelt offers a beautiful hiking trail, rock climbing, bicycling paths, and swimming.
