First opening its doors in 1925, Texas A&M – Kingsville holds the distinction of being the oldest college in South Texas. The university prides itself on serving a diverse student population, and was the first school in the nation to offer a doctorate in bilingual education. The university is recognized as one of the nation’s top Hispanic Serving Institutions, with particularly high achievement in the fields of engineering and science (including the country’s only program specific to natural gas engineering).

TAMU-Kingsville dominates the suburban northwest corner of its namesake city, with rural countryside on one side and residential neighborhoods on the other. Numerous affordable apartments, houses, and condos can be found within easy walking distance of the campus, especially clustered along Armstrong Street. NAS Kingsville sits right on the other side of town, making TAMUK a popular choice for military personnel. The Gulf beaches of Padre Island are only a short drive to the east, and the larger city of Corpus Christi is less than an hour up the road.
