Since its founding in 1910, Kent State University has become an engine for economic, cultural, and workforce development. KSU is a large public research university comprised of eight campuses, with the Kent Campus serving as the main one. Acclaimed for its academic programs such as aeronautics and fashion design, Kent State also excels in sports with the Golden Flashes competing in the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference.
Multiple buildings on KSU’s main campus are named in reference to May 4 to commemorate the four students killed by Ohio National Guardsmen while protesting the Vietnam War on May 4, 1970.
Housing options near Kent State are plentiful. To narrow your options, focus your search near the buildings you frequent the most on campus. For example, Hugh A. Glauser School of Music students and faculty may want to look for apartments near the north side of campus, with access to East Main Street. Those spending the bulk of their time in the Aeronautics and Technology Building should concentrate on campus’ south side, near Summit Street.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
