When it began back in 1870 as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College, no one could have predicted that Ohio State University would become one of the nation's top-ranking universities. Today, Ohio State University has the third-largest campus in the country, situated on the north side of Columbus. OSU is a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institution, and the Buckeyes compete in NCAA Division I as part of the Big Ten Conference.
If you want to live near Ohio State for the sports, apartments near Ohio Stadium can be found along North High Street and Summit Street, between Woodruff Avenue and East 11th Avenue. For those who want to be near the Ohio State University Hospital and the Wexner Medical Center, the west side of campus is ideal, especially along Olentangy River Road. OSU's campus is over 1,700 acres and features four buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Ohio Stadium.
OSU is an urban campus, located about four miles north of Downtown Columbus. As the state's largest city and its capital, Columbus is much more than a college town. Whether you are moving to Columbus to live near OSU or because you'll be working at one of the city's several Fortune 500 companies, Columbus is dynamic and action-packed. It frequently appears on "best cities" lists and offers several top-rated neighborhoods. For great neighborhoods near OSU, look at University, Old North Columbus, and Short North.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
