The beautiful, wooded campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington is a major draw for students -- so is its location to the ocean, especially the wildly popular Wrightsville Beach. But UNCW is much more than a pretty campus, offering more than 50 bachelor's degree programs, 36 master's degree programs, and four doctoral programs. The university covers 661 acres and first opened in 1947. Today, it is most noted for is top-ranking marine science program.

If bicycling and walking are important, the Cross-City Trail extends 15 miles throughout Wilmington, ending at Wrightsville Beach. To be near trail access, look along Hamilton Drive, Wagoner Drive, Riegel Road, and Rose Avenue near UNCW.
