UM is a public research university established in 1893 as Montana's flagship campus. It is a top-ranking university, considered one of the best in the nation. It ranks fifth in producing Rhodes Scholars and offers 11 colleges. The Montana Grizzlies compete in NCAA Division I as part of the Big Sky Conference. Watch the Grizzlies play football at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, catch a basketball game at Dahlberg Arena, cheer on the soccer teams at South Campus Stadium, and catch the softball team at Grizzly Field.
Missoula is a terrific city at the convergence of five mountain ranges, providing scenic views in every direction. Founded in 1860, the city began as Hellgate Trading Post. The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
