Most commonly known by the moniker Ole Miss, the University of Mississippi has long been recognized as one of the South’s most prestigious academic institutions, with its stately campus steeped in rich history and tradition. The campus culture is largely dominated by major student activities: more than a third of the student population are members of Greek organizations, and the university’s sports program attracts a huge fan base statewide. Most of the major university buildings are clustered near the central portion of campus; however, if you’ll be frequenting the Law Center, you may want to rent an apartment or house near the west side of the campus. A few short blocks to the east, Downtown Oxford is packed with specialty shops, unique restaurants, and nightlife hotspots to suit any taste, student and non-student alike. Oxford has numerous budget-friendly rental options available, but you will definitely pay a premium to live near the campus, especially around the Downtown area.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
