Perched between the city and the countryside on the Kentucky state line, the University of Southern Indiana is a relatively young institution offering a wealth of academic opportunities to its students. The university serves as a major intellectual and cultural hub for the mostly-rural region surrounding its hometown of Evansville. The main campus of USI sits on the west side of Evansville, a city of around 120,000 people on the banks of the Ohio River. The university is surrounded by residential neighborhoods—apartments, condos, and rental houses near campus are mostly found on the east side, approaching the city center. Burdette Park is a great nearby greenspace featuring trails, camping, and a BMX dirt track. Evansville’s downtown is full of great dining, nightlife, and entertainment, and a few local restaurants near campus like Azzip Pizza and Sportsman’s Grille are popular hangouts for the college crowd. When you’re craving a change of scenery, UNI enjoys a terrific location within weekend trip distance of Indianapolis, Nashville, Louisville, and St. Louis.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
