Located about three miles south of downtown St. Louis and right along the Mississippi River, Marine Villa packs plenty of culture and history into a small area. The neighborhood has brick houses and apartment buildings on almost every corner, and even has some flounder houses, a style of home rarely seen outside of St. Louis. Other historic buildings found within Marine Villa include the Lemp Brewery and the Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion.
If you want to own something with history behind it, head over to Cherokee Street and check out its many antique stores, including the Heirloom Room and the Purple Cow. After that, you can grab a pint at the Irish Corner Pub, a popular local hangout. Marine Villa has an impressive arts scene, with the South Broadway Art Project providing art classes for all ages and Off Broadway holding live music performances.
