Frankford is one of Philadelphia’s most historic, influential neighborhoods. Originally a large milling area, Frankford showcases many historic sites, including Enoch Edwards' house, where Thomas Jefferson and other Revolutionary leaders celebrated after the passage of the Declaration of Independence. Today, this historic urban neighborhood is known for a tight-knit community with plenty of parks and school options for families. Housing options in Frankford include everything from affordable rowhomes to upscale apartments available for rent. Stores and authentic restaurants are located along Frankford Street, but many residents travel outside of the neighborhood for more options. Great for renters who work or go to school in the city, Frankford has two subway stations and many SEPTA buses also service the neighborhood. This neighborhood works well for those who want to live inside the city, but also desire a bit of a suburban atmosphere. Center City is only a 25-minute drive away from Frankford.
As of January 2026, the average apartment rent in Frankford is $821 for a studio, $1,038 for one bedroom, $1,256 for two bedrooms, and $1,378 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Frankford has increased by 0.7% in the past year.

Frankford is an area where you are able to make friends fast. There are always children playing on the streets and is a tight community.

I like the fact that I'm not to far from the transportation station here which makes it easier to get to school and back. However, the safety around the station and Frankford as a whole is concerning. For one, I would like to see this place get a much needed clean up.

I bought a house on Edmund st 3 years ago and I still love my neighborhood. There's diversity, friendly neighbors, stores nearby, park to take the kids and dogs right up the street. I also love how public transportation and aramingo stores are nearby. Very convenient.

I am not a big fan of this neighborhood. It is not a great neighborhood but my neighbors are good and they look out for each other. It is not a neighborhood I would want my family to live in in the future, it is unpredictable and has very many drug addicts, alcoholics, criminals and much more.
