Also known simply as Dutchtown or the Dutch, Dutchtown South is one of the largest historic neighborhoods in the city. In fact, Dutchtown is so large that it even has its own “downtown” district. Downtown Dutchtown is located along Meramec Street, a long strip of eclectic restaurants and shops. Small parks anchor the northeast portion of Dutchtown South, making it easy to get outdoors and take in some sunshine away from your apartment mere blocks from the mighty Mississippi River. Marquette Park features a playground, recreational fields, and an outdoor swimming pool for hot, summer days. Laclede Park contains mature trees perfect for a walk in the fall time during peak color changes. This diverse, quaint neighborhood has a variety of affordable and moderately priced rentals including charming brick bungalows, townhomes, and apartments. Even though Dutchtown is packed with amenities, residents also enjoy proximity to some South City’s trendiest neighborhoods, Tower Grove South, Gravois Park, and Benton Park which border Dutchtown to the north. Downtown Saint Louis is only five miles away.
As of January 2026, the average apartment rent in Dutchtown South is $596 for one bedroom, $899 for two bedrooms, and $1,074 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Dutchtown South has increased by 0.6% in the past year.

I rented in the neighborhood for 9 years and now have owned a house for almost 5 years. I have made an attempt to know a lot of my neighbors and have gotten involved in the neighborhood. I live on one of the quietest streets in the city. Love everything about this area!

There are small pockets of serenity, varying streets of civility but overall you should be carrying a weapon with you at all times. There are multiple shootings every week and you need to have security cameras if you live here. The nuns even have cameras. This is not a safe place. The schools are ranked lowest in the state and the property value is plummeting.
