Clifton, about three miles east of downtown Louisville, is a trendy neighborhood that mixes modern art and specialty shops with Victorian architecture. Modern apartments for rent blend in with homes dating from the late 1800s. Clifton sits in the hills between two parks -- Louisville Champions Park and the Beargrass Creek Greenway -- about a block from the Ohio River.
Clifton begins near the intersection of Story Avenue and Brownsboro Road, with I-64 forming its southern border. Frankfort Avenue anchors the neighborhood, treating residents to locally-owned restaurants, niche shops, and art galleries. Get to know your new neighbors at the Irish Rover with its strong Irish flair, or dig into handcrafted ice cream for a sweet end to your meal at the Comfy Cow.
The Clifton neighborhood comes alive around the holidays, with plenty of seasonal activities year-round, including an annual Easter parade.
As of December 2025, the average apartment rent in Clifton is $1,211 for a studio, $1,099 for one bedroom, and $1,245 for two bedrooms. Apartment rent in Clifton has increased by 2.2% in the past year.

My wife and her family was Pope Street residents for a very long time, so I got grandfathered in, and now I'm a resident myself.

I feel safe. I've lived here for 7 years. The area is generally clean, has many restaurants and a diverse population. It's nothing fancy, but it feels "homey".
