Just a few minutes west of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Arlington-West End is a cozy neighborhood with fast access to campus. But this neighborhood isn’t only popular with students. With its long history, affordability, and easy access to Downtown Birmingham, Arlington-West End provides a terrific option for a variety of residents. It is home to one of the area’s largest employers, the Princeton Baptist Medical Center – also the site of the weekly farmers market.
Residents of Arlington-West End enjoy gardening at the West End Community Garden, which also hosts special events and classes. The neighborhood has an extensive historic district and is home to the Arlington Antebellum House, built around 1840 by one of the city founders, Judge William Mudd. This walkable neighborhood is convenient to McWane Science Center, the Birmingham Museum of Art, and Birmingham-Southern College. While Arlington-West End is primarily residential, you’ll find several shops and restaurants located along Lomb Avenue.
