The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Laurel Forest
My husband and I moved here in June 2020, mid-COVID time. We were looking for a place in Hickory to be our first home together, and we have loved living here. The manager is fast to respond to emails, and is a very no-nonsense guy. We have a unit that is on the perimeter, so we have a quiet back patio and total privacy. The price is SO good for what we get. The only utility we pay is electric, and it has been a godsend with a tighter budget. We quickly found ways to make this place our own, with the help of lots of Command strips and hooks! I especially like the showers- great water pressure and no seams inside the tub. Might seem silly, but are so nice to me! We also love having the extra storage unit outside. It fits everything that we need, plus some. The other reviewer is right that you can hear others, but everyone around our building is very respectful and we have never been bothered by it. From where we are, we can't hear anything from the pool or playground. Oh, and speaking of neighbors, we have never had ANY problems with parking. There are plenty of guest spaces for friends and family to visit, and our assigned spots are right outside the door! One last thing to end this long review- there is a park .25 miles up the road. Not the biggest park ever, but it has lots to do. It has a skate park, basketball court, baseball/softball fields, pavilion, and rec center. The rec center actually offers a daily option to use the gym, so you could show up, pay a couple bucks, and do your workout if you need to.
This is a great apartment complex. The manager is very responsive and helpful, and I have never had any trouble getting a quick response from maintenance. They keep the complex very clean and the landscaping looks great. For the price, I think this is the best deal in Hickory. When I was looking for apartments, I couldn't find any reviews on Laurel, but I 100% recommend. The only thing that has really bugged me is how much you can hear when neighbors talk outside, when they talk in certain rooms (if they're loud), and when people/animals run up the stairs. I feel like this is in most apartments, and you dont have to deal with people living above or below you here, so I think it's worth it. I wish I could take this complex with me when I move for work!
