Neighborhood - Taylor Hutto

Taylor and its next-door neighbor Hutto are two small cities located on the west side of Round Rock. Highway 79 leads from the cities directly into Downtown Round Rock, and from Hutto it's a quick seven-mile drive. Austin is also within easy reach, just 26 miles southwest. Taylor formed around 1876 when the railroad arrived. It was originally named Taylorsville after railroad official Edward Taylor. It was renamed Taylor in 1892. Taylor's claim to fame is that it was home of Dan Moody, the 30th Governor (and the youngest) of Texas. Moody took office in 1927 at the age of 33. His home now serves as a museum.

Hutto, also formed with the arrival of the railroad in 1876, was named for the original land owner, James Emory Hutto. Hutto, a rancher, sold five acres to the railroad to create a train station. Soon, a town developed around the station and by 1884, there were 200 residents in Hutto. At the time, the town was considered an important cotton market.
